S. Kusuoka, A. Yamazaki «Advances in Mathematical Economics / Volume 11 (Advances in Mathematical Economics)»
Publisher: Springer | Edition: 2008 | ISBN: 4431777830 | PDF | 160 pages | 1,02 Mb

A lot of economic problems can formulated as constrained optimizations and equilibration of their solutions. Various mathematical theories have been supplying economists with indispensable machineries for these problems arising in economic theory. Conversely, mathematicians have been stimulated by various mathematical difficulties raised by economic theories. The series is designed to bring together those mathematicians who were seriously interested in getting new challenging stimuli from economic theories with those economists who are seeking for effective mathematical tools for their researchers.

Maury Bramson «Stability of Queueing Networks: Ecole d'Ete de Probabilites de Saint-Flour XXXVI-2006»
Publisher: Springer | Edition: 2008 | ISBN: 3540688951 | PDF | 190 pages | 1,5 Mb

Queueing networks constitute a large family of stochastic models, involving jobs that enter a network, compete for service, and eventually leave the network upon completion of service. Since the early 1990s, substantial attention has been devoted to the question of when such networks are stable.
This volume presents a summary of such work. Emphasis is placed on the use of fluid models in showing stability, and on examples of queueing networks that are unstable even when the arrival rate is less than the service rate.
The material of this volume is based on a series of nine lectures given at the Saint-Flour Probability Summer School 2006.
Lectures were also given by Alice Guionnet and Steffen Lauritzen.

Larry Sullivan, Marie Simonetti Rosen, Dorothy Moses Schulz, Maria R. Haberfeld «Encyclopedia of Law Enforcement (Volume 3 International)»
Publisher: Sage Publications, Inc | Edition: 2004 | ISBN: 0761926496 | PDF | 532 pages | 13,2 Mb

Although there is a plethora of studies on crime and punishment, law enforcement is a relatively new field of serious research. When courts, sentencing, prisons, jails, and other areas of the criminal justice system are studied, often the first point of entry into the system is through police and law enforcement agencies. Unfortunately, understanding of the important issues in law enforcement has little general literature to draw on. Currently available reference works on policing are narrowly focused and sorely out-of-date. To this end, a distinguished roster of authors, representing many years of knowledge and practice in the field, draw on the latest research and methods to delineate, describe, and analyze all areas of law enforcement.

John Severn «Architects of Empire: The Duke of Wellington and His Brothers»
Publisher: University of Oklahoma Press | Edition: 2002 | ISBN: 0806138106 | PDF | 602 pages | 2,72 Mb

A soldier and statesman for the ages, the Duke of Wellington is a towering figure in world history. John Severn now offers a fresh look at the man born Arthur Wellesley to show that his career was very much a family affair, a lifelong series of interactions with his brothers and their common Anglo-Irish heritage. The untold story of a great family drama, Architects of Empire paints a new picture of the era through the collective biography of Wellesley and his siblings.
Whereas other historians have minimized the importance of family ties, Severn provides an unusually nuanced understanding of the Duke of Wellington. Architects of Empire casts his career in a new light--one that will surprise those who believe they already know the man.

Ronald J. Kendall, Steven M. Presley, Galen P. Austin, Philip N. Smith «Advances in Biological and Chemical Terrorism Countermeasures»
Publisher: CRC | Edition: 2008 | ISBN: 142007654X | PDF | 304 pages | 4,7 Mb

Biological and chemical weapons are a growing terrorist threat to the United States and other nations and countermeasures continue to evolve as a national and global priority issue. To keep up with this rapidly changing and vital field we must establish the current state-of-the-science on countermeasures to form a platform from which to offer perspectives, policies, and procedures that will assist the United States and other nations to defend themselves from future threats.
An up-to-date assessment of the technologies and strategies for providing countermeasures to biological and chemical terrorism, Advances in Biological and Chemical Terrorism Countermeasures integrates vastly disparate disciplines, calling on authors that are directly and currently involved in the research to present their own data as well as their educated opinions and advice. It draws heavily on the findings and conclusions from research conducted through the Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt, Jr. National Program for Countermeasures to Biological and Chemical Threats, which is partially funded through the U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command.
