The Brecker Brothers - Collection Vol.1 (1990)
Mp3 320 Kbps | 168 Mb | Total Time: 01:10:17
Genre: Jazz, Fusión

The Breckers were often dismissed as shallow R&B fusion at the time of these recordings, understandable given the music's rock star swagger and Michael's propensity to play as many notes as humanly possible. However, that doesn't take into account Randy's innovative horn arrangements (tight clusters that ended up gracing hits by Diana Ross and Cameo, among others), the revolutionary harmonic structure of songs such as "Some Skunk Funk," Michael's John Coltrane meets King Curtis saxophone wizardry, or Randy's chromatic approach to the trumpet.

Magic Slim and the Teardrops - Snakebite (2000)
Mp3 320 Kbps | 123 Mb | Total Time: 00:46:10
Genre: Blues, Modern electric blues

After losing guitarist John Primer from the group and with Slim's relocation to Lincoln, NE, the Teardrops floundered for a bit, but this is a very welcome return to form that puts them back on top as the best Chicago blues band. Whether you call it houserockin', Delta, or Chicago-style blues, the sound on this album is all Magic Slim, and synthesizes everything from country-western to storybook blues to rock & roll. Better yet, the clarity of the recorded sound is wonderful and will have you tapping your feet & growling along with the Magic Man from start to finish. This is right up there with "Gravel Road" as essential Magic Slim albums from Blind Pig Records.

Salvatore Adamo was born in Sicily on November 1st 1943, in the small commune of Comiso. He remained an only child until he was seven. In June of that year, Concetta and her son emigrated in turn, joining Antonio in the town of Ghlin before moving to Jemappes. In 1950, Salvatore was bedridden for a year with meningitis. Salvatore's parents did not want their son to become a miner and made great sacrifices to give him a good education, in a strict Catholic school run by the Frères des Ecoles Chrétiennes. Salvatore was a hard working, solitary student. By 1960, the number of Adamo children had grown to seven.

Willie Kent – I'm What You Need (1976)
Mp3 320 Kbps | 79 Mb | Total Time: 00:32:01 | Covers
Genre: Blues, Modern electric blues

An important part of the Chicago blues scene for decades, bassist and singer Willie Kent only began recording his own albums fairly recently. Make Room for the Blues, Kent's fourth for Delmark Records, is chock full of heavy grooves and rich vocals, in the best Chicago style. Kent is a master of mood; he goes from nice and easy ("Do You Love Me?") to lighthearted ("3-6-9," "Me and My Baby") to bittersweet ("Address in the Street") from one track to the next. Most of the material on the CD is Kent's own, testimony to his considerable songwriting abilities, and he's got a rich, versatile vocal style to go with it. There's some fine guitar work from Billy Flynn and Jake Dawson, and Kenny Barker turns in some excellent piano, but underpinning it all is Kent's rock-solid bass. --Genevieve Williams

The Brecker Brothers - The Brecker Brothers (1975)
Mp3 320 Kbps | 119 Mb | Total Time: 00:45:38
Genre: Jazz, Fusión

I am a big fan of the Brecker Brothers' work of the 70's and early 80's when they produced a unique style of music, characterized by powerful grooves and wonderful, original melodies and harmonies. Together with the great individual skills of Michael and Randy and of the various other band members, they were responsible for some of the greatest Jazz (funk) records IMHO. I decided to buy this cd after i was quite enthusiastic about their 'Live in Barcelona' video.

Formed in early 2007, the quartet originally went by the name of the Tempest, but quickly made the switch while recording its debut album, Once Only Imagined, for release through Century Media. Elvin Bishop Group - Selftitled (2002)
Mp3 320 Kbps | 88 Mb | Total Time: 00:36:54
Genre: Blues,Modern Electric Blues

Elvin Bishop played when we kids were roaming all over the San Francisco Bay Area catching Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Country Joe and the Fish, Cream, ELO, Santana, Joe Cocker, Canned Heat, the Kinks, and on and on and on. My son asked me once, "Mom, is that all you guys did back then? Go to concerts?" Visions of open-airs in Golden Gate Park and on Stanford grounds, at Winterland and the Fillmore West in San Francisco, the Longbranch Saloon in Berkeley, the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, and so on filled my head before I answered, "Pretty much so, Honey". Do treat yourself if you like this recording to a much better and bluesier one by Taj Mahal called The Natch'l Blues. Very smooth and rhythmic.

Jeff Kashiwa - Another Door Opens (2000)
Mp3 320 Kbps | 109 Mb | Total Time: 00:45:28
Genre: Jazz, Smooth Jazz

Whenever Jeff Kashiwa gets fed up with the day-to-day grind of being one of smooth jazz's most popular saxmen, all he has to do is recall the late '80s. He was working an unspectacular day job and playing too many weekend weddings when his friend, bassist Steve Bailey, helped get him an audition to replace saxophonist Brandon Fields in the Rippingtons. Kashiwa landed the gig. During the next ten years Kashiwa became one of the focal points of the Ripps' classic sound. In the mid '90s he took some rare downtime to produce two well-received solo efforts, Remember Catalina and Walkamile.

Elvin Bishop Group – Feel It! (1970)
Mp3 320 Kbps | 102 Mb | Total Time: 00:42:15
Genre: Blues,Modern Electric Blues

When Elvin Bishop left the Butterfield Blues Band in 1968 and moved to California, he added the one ingredient missing from San Francisco's bubbling musical cauldron - nasty, down-home, electrified blues. The Elvin Bishop Group's self-titled debut from 1969, their 1970 sophomore effort Feel It! and their third longplayer, 1972's Rock My Soul, are just what Doctor Feelgood ordered from the guitar whiz who'd cut his teeth jamming with Chicago legends Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Little Walter. Includes the bonus track 'Stealin' Watermelons'. Sundazed. 2002.

David Naegele - Temple In The Forest (1982)
Mp3 320 Kbps | 102 Mb | Total Time: 00:42:10
Genre: New Age, Meditation

I used to use this tape for meditation some fifteen years ago, and it sounds as fresh today. The combination of bells, natural sounds, and gentle music takes you through a journey that naturally leads your inner thoughts without the necessity for words.
I only wish another of his pieces, "Journeys out of the body" were still available. Quite different, it is reminiscent of the chanting of Buddhist monks, a drone that changes and weaves with a sublime single synthesized line has an astounding affect - it does seem almost to lift you out of your body! Some people would find this piece a bit scary. It's because it brings you close to the boundary that most of us find impossible to cross using meditation.
