“One year after the passing of John Paul II, this is a DVD dedicated to the Holy Father, with sacred arias performed by Andrea Bocelli and played by the Orchestra and Choir of Santa Cecilia National Academy, directed by Maestro Myung-Whun Chung. The DVD is a project by Caterina Caselli Sugar, directed by Alberto Michelini, binding the most impressive images of John Paul II's Pontificate to Andrea Bocelli's touching interpretations who performs religious hymns taken from the classical repertoire. The movie recalls some of the most important moments of John Paul II's Pontificate with archive footage and homilies. Memories start from October 16th 1978, day of the Pope's election, up to April 4th 2005 when his remains were carried to St. Peter's Basilica, for the faithful's last moved homage. The DVD features events like the closing of the Holy Year of Redemption in March 1984, the homily in the Nativity Basilica in Nazareth on March 2000, the Youths Jubilee in August 2000 and the Day of the Prayer For Peace in the World in Assisi, on January 2002.
Moreover we find some footage about John Paul II's travels and bishop's journeys all over the world: in Poland in June 1979, in Ireland on October of the same year, in Nicaragua in February 1996, in Cuba in January 1998 and to Lourdes on August 2004. There are also historic meetings to promote the communication among religions, like those with the Rumanian Orthodox Patriarch Teoctist, on September 2002, and with the Chief Rabbi Elio Toaff, held in April 1986 at the Synagogue of Rome. In addition the DVD contains an excerpt from John Paul II's Letter to Women, read and interpreted by Giancarlo Giannini.

“This documentary film was made by Antonioni during a Stay of five weeks in China invited by the Chinese government. In the soon 70' there was scarcely any information of China, so this was the oportunity to take a look to this country. Antonioni as the narrator says it at the beginning: “We have just wanted to get a picture of China, we can't offer more”. The film shows a lot of faces and tries to show the custom, gestures of the Chinese. It is apparently rather neutral politically, but some clues show that Antonioni felt the repression existing in China. But it is also very interesting as an Antonioni film: it was made between «Zabriskie Point» and «The Passenger», his final and definitive masterpiece. “Alert: This movie has the most fantastic background graphics, equal in quality to the very best – like “Cowboy Bebop” or something from studio Ghibli (“Spirited Away”). Just wonderful color of the sunsets, schools houses etc. As a teen slice of life/tentative romance/drama the story seems like it could be cliche', but they do interesting things with it, make it more dramatic in the middle, and at the end i was satisfied. The emotional depth sort of sneaks up on you. Sounds were well-integrated into the film and the voice actors were spot-on in their portrayals. Just a fine experience watching this on here in Asia. I owned Kleiber's famous version of Brahms's 4th back in the heady days of the LP and would have bought just that on CD. But to commemorate the career and extremely limited recording career of Carlos Kleiber they repackaged Brahms's 4th with Kleiber's nearly as excellent version of Schubert's Unfinished Symphony along with excerpts from Wagner to produce a horn of plenty for music lovers. Kleiber produced fewer recordings than any other great conductor of his generation, but despite his rather meager output will be remembered for generations to come on the basis of the amazing quality of a few of these discs. There are several candidates for the best recording of Brahms's Fourth, but this is one of them and is certainly one that one has to take into account when evaluating the finest versions on record. All Kleiber's recordings will, of course, always take a bit of a back seat to his very famous recording of Beethoven's Fifth and Seventh symphonies. Even if one already owns multiple versions of both the Brahms and Schubert this is a disc that any classical music lover should get. Rarely will you see two such classic version of major orchestral works coupled together on at a bargain price. The Saint-Saens concerto sounds so vivid, it's hard to believe it was recorded in 1950. Except for the mono sound, it's sound like he recorded it yesterday.
