Modern Jazz Quartet .:. Fontessa .:. 2003 [Remastered]
Jazz | Time 37:00 | RAR 80 Mb | MP3 320 kbps | Front cover

This 1956 record marked the beginning of the Modern Jazz Quartet's long and fruitful relationship with Atlantic Records and was one of their most inspired visits to a studio. While there had been excellent bands in the past that created a chamber-jazz genre, such as Red Norvo's trio, John Lewis's vision of a fusion of jazz and classical elements was distinctly original. It's apparent here in the controlled counterpoint of "Versailles," the extended first recording on "Fontessa," with Lewis's spare and precise piano perfectly complementing the looser swing of Milt Jackson's glistening vibraphone sound. The group mingles beautifully around Percy Heath's supple, melodic bass lines and Connie Kay's discrete and gently propulsive beat. Jackson's "Bluesology" and Dizzy Gillespie's "Woody'n You" inspire boppish invention, while the limpidly beautiful standards "Willow Weep for Me" and "Angel Eyes" demonstrate Jackson's ability to shift mood in a single phrase. – Stuart Broomer

Paul Motian .:. Garden of Eden .:. 2006
Jazz | MP3 VBR 320 kbps | Time 56:36 | RAR 68+66 Mb | Front cover

This is Paul Motian's second recording for ECM since his return to the label in 2005 after a long absence. Garden of Eden is a typical Motian date; highly nuanced and thoughtful, combining bop tunes, Broadway standards andhis somewhat abstract originals in a pleasing package which is both stimulating and easy on the ears.

Afterhis tenurewith BillEvans, Motian seldom used a piano in his own groups, and the group assembled for this session consists of two saxophones, three guitars, electric bass and drums. The fourteen relatively short pieces (including gorgeous renditions of Mingus's "Pithecanthropus Erectus" and "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat") are fluid, lyrical conversations between various combinations of guitars, saxophones and bass, all of which coil sinuously around a theme, approaching it from various perspectives, while Motian lays down a foundation of rhythmic colours. Elegant, mature work from a jazz master. Reviewer: Bill Tilland

The Contemporary Anti Dutch by Andrew Martin (1990)
English | PDF Book | 111 pages | RAR 7 Mb | ISBN: 1871541093 | Publisher: Tournament Chess.

My guess is that a lot of 1 d4 players don´'t really know what to do against the Dutch. The move 1 ... f5 has cropped
up relatively infrequently (until now) and only the most well prepared professionals are ready to fight properly against it.
I also, through bitter experience, don't think its particularly easy to play the g3 systems for white. Black may well be
weakening his kingside but in return he has established a grip on e4 and it's not at all clear how to shake it off.
So this has prompted me to investigate the Anti-Dutch ideas that you will find in this short book. The material is as up
to date as I can make it (including 1990 references) and I have taken the liberty of leaving out some unimportant sidelines well catalogued elsewhere. Now that the Dutch is becoming increasingly popular at all levels of play this is a book very much for the practical player. Andrew Martin.

Los Jaivas .:. Mamalluca .:. 1999
Andean folk | Time 54:36 | RAR 51 Mb | MP3 192 Kbps | Front cover

Mamalluca is a good idea and a excellent piece of experimental music, is the musicalization of some poems of Gabriel Parra who died in the '80, but that musicalization has the characteristic that is made with a sinphonic orchestra, the sound some times is beauty, the scent of a feel, a grat hability to impact with the music, sometimes melancolic another mor happie, another times is really bad like in "El Tambo".
But, after all, I think, is good to have it, that isn´t a loose of time at all. I only say it could be better for "Los Jaivas". I think that it seems like theese bands when found them way they make once and another time works very similars, and don't want to experiment anymore, that's my way of think.
A last comment is that the topic of these conceptual album is the desert, this pacific place where you can see the sky and all it stars, the calm that you can feel in this place and how the natives used it to them rituals and now is used to investigate the space with the most moderns astronomic observatories. without doubt I think that the force of this place makes images tike the butterfly falling in the universe and the music sorround it. To apreciate the totally feel I recomed to see the video of these album, is like the catharsis of all the ¿good feelings? in you. That passages makes this album a great album.

Donald Byrd .::. Street Lady .::. 1973
Jazz | MP3 192 Kbps | Time 42:25 | RAR 60 Mb | Front cover

Three in a row for the Mizzells! Heres a landmark album by Donald Byrd the first one where he really started to click with jazz-funk producer Larry Mizell! Mizell and Byrd had worked together previously on the Black Byrd album a soaring bit of futuristic jazz funk that took Byrd's career to a whole new level but this album's the one where they really began to make the formula cook, blending together tight funky rhythms, spacey keyboards, soulful vocals, and some of Donald's best solo work of the 70s! The whole thing's a masterpiece, and all tracks sparkle including "Lansana's Priestess", "Witch Hunt", and "Street Lady", one of the funkiest tracks ever on Blue Note. A haunting record with a beautiful spacey groove, and one of the best-ever fusion albums on Blue Note.

Jazz | MP3 VBR 192 kbps | Time 75:36+73:50 | RAR 56+54::55+53 Mb | Front Cover

French trumpeter Erik Truffaz, one of the hardest working artists in jazz, seems to be endlessly on tour with his two groups. The only place his stylistically hybridized music has yet to make significant inroads is the US—which is a shame because Truffaz is a fine player from the electric Miles camp and a largely innovative conceptualist as well. Face-à-Face, his first live release, includes one disc with his piano-based quartet and the other with his guitar-centric Ladyland. It demonstrates just how different studio material can be in performance, where the energy and expansive possibilities are greater. Read more...

Mahavishnu Orchestra .:. Visions Of The Emerald Beyond .:. 1991 (Remastered)
Jazz Rock | MP3 VBR 320 kbps | Time 40:24 | RAR 78 Mb | Covers

As the second album to document the second Mahavishnu Orchestra, this one isn't as, well, apocalyptic as its predecessor, yet it does focus more intently on the band itself. Jean-Luc Ponty's curling electric violin lines help give this Mahavishnu band a more European sound than its predecessor, and some of the orchestral concepts of Apocalypse work their way into the picture via comments by a string trio and trumpet/sax duo. This band also had some interest in a bombastic funk direction that may have been borrowed from Mr. "Chameleon" Herbie Hancock, and would later be followed by Mahavishnu Two's drummer, Michael Walden. Gayle Moran's ethereal vocals don't date as badly as those on many jazz-rock records; at least she can sing.
Overall, this Mahavishnu edition is more refined and not as aggressive as the first -- although they could charge ahead pretty hard, as "Be Happy" and "On the Way Home to Earth" demonstrate -- yet they were still capable of making memorable electric music. ~ Richard S. Ginell, All Music Guide

The author presents some new concepts, such as progressive and reciprocal thinking, to help readers to make fewer mistakes and avoid unnecessary foolish errors.
