Ben van Berkel was trained to the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and the Architectural Association School in London, where he locked 1987 its study. After he had worked short time for Zaha Hadid and Santiago Calatrava, he established himself in Amsterdam. It realized its first work in in Amersfoort, among other things factory (1990-91) and the Exterieur of a transformatorenhauses (1989-93). Van Berkels so far largest project is the draft for the Erasmusbruecke in Rotterdam (1990-95).

"Album number four from the Wellington, New Zealand, jazz trio known as Twinset finds the Yeabsley brothers (Christopher on organ and Daniel on saxophone) and drummer Paul Hoskin moving back to the denser instrumental "boogaloo" sound of their superb 'It's A Summer Feeling' album. Hoskin's subtle yet busy rhythmic drumming and the deep minimal funk of Yeabsley's organ power the swingin' Blue Note inspired tunes (think Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff etc), while the second Yeabsley adds colourful and inspired tenor, alto and soprano sax flourishes as required. The album has a tougher (and welcome) overall sound also, reflecting the trio's growing maturity in the studio (the album is self produced) and the influential assistance of both Nick McGowan (recording engineer) and The Drop's Mu (mastering). Easily the best New Zealand jazz record I have heard in 2004, 'Lifestyle' should find plenty of fans throughout this summer - and deservedly so. Recommended."

This is the record that put the legendary Ramsey Lewis on the map. Lewis is known as an incredible stylist on piano, comfortably adapting almost any kind of music into his own jazz fusion vision. Film scores, pop, light classical hall fit comfortably into his music, and this album is an excellent example of his vision. But, it's not only Lewis alone. His absolutely fabulous rhythm section of Red Holt (drums) and Eldee Young on (bass/cello) frame all of Ramsey's performances with funk and grace and a superior forward momentum. Aside from the groovin' hit "The in Crowd," the album contains fantastic readings of Duke Ellington's "Come Sunday" and the "Love Theme From Spartacus." This album is one of the places where Afro and funk-jazz started, and aside from it's historical significance, it's a stone groove.

For his fifth album as a leader (not counting the many he recorded as part of the Joe Zawinul Syndicate and as a member of Grover Washington, Jr.'s backing band), six-string bassist Gerald Veasley pushes the smooth jazz envelope a bit. Those who like their grooves gentle and their textures lush will still find plenty to like here – the rich strings on his cover of Stevie Wonder's "Do I Do," for instance, or the sweet and lovely "Goodnight Moon," written in honor of Washington. But there's a certain toughness at the center of the music this time out, and a greater willingness to let loose. The massed horns of "Kickin' 22 Express," the driving mid-tempo funk of his arrangement of the Ramsey Lewis classic "The In Crowd," the snaky and virtuosic unison lines on "You Asked for It" – all of these point to someone who is not ultimately satisfied with just creating pleasantly swinging background music.
