Claire Pelletier: Murmures d'histoire
MP3 | 192 Kbps | 72Mb

Claire Pelletier has an absolutely beautiful voice, and this CD has some very nice cuts. I cannot speak for my Canadian, and/or French Canadians neighbors to the North, but to an American ear, she has the most sensuous voice that simply never sounds strained at any note. Yet I had to go to Amazon's Canadian site to get this CD. Only her CD, Galileo, is available on Amazon's American site. This CD is also very pleasant to listen to. Why is Claire not better known in the US? From whatever research on her I could muster, it is my impression that she is an extraordinarily modest person for her talents; she loves what she does. Fame is not important to her. In any case, every American to whom I exposed her music has been transfixed. Her voice is truly unique.

Jorane: 16MM
MP3 | 192Kbps | 86Mb
2000 | Rock, Alternative

Jorane's self-produced second disc may take its name from a film format that is modest in size, but the music is definitely closer to 70mm in scope. In 16mm, the Montreal-based singer and cellist has created a much more satisfying disc than Vent Fou, her precocious debut. While she may still attract comparisons to Kate Bush, Tori Amos, and Dead Can Dance's Lisa Gerrard, Jorane confidently stakes out more of her own terrain. On "By Feet from" and "Pour Gabrielle," her plaintive singing and cello playing are effectively juxtaposed with the nimble, subtle rhythms that lie deep in the songs. With its lush, multitracked vocals, the gorgeous three-part "Film" has a depth and richness missing in Enya's lullabies. But 16mm is too compelling to serve as musical wallpaper. The centerpiece is the eight-minute "Work No. 3," a brooding song on which Jorane sings wordless incantations. On "Chouette," she gets more playful, mewling like a cat over a jazz riff by bassist Thomas Babin and clattery percussion by
Genevieve Jodoin and Alexis Martin. "Hello" is an offbeat piece of percolating babble that recalls the work of American composer Meredith Monk. The closing songs--the ghostly "Nouvelle" and "My Little Luck"--are equally endearing. On the latter, she croons while plucking out a melody that bears an odd resemblance to Otis Redding's "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay." (That melody recurs in the hidden bonus track, a full-band version of "My Little Luck" that includes a lovely vocal duet by Jorane and Jodoin.) The album benefits greatly from a sense of economy and restraint that was mostly absent on the melodramatic Vent Fou--the music on 16mm is intricately detailed but not overly ornate. On this rich and emotionally affecting disc, Jorane proves to be a performer capable of subtlety as well as intensity. --Jason Anderson

Jorane: Vent Fou
MP3 | 192Kbps | 68Mb
1999 | Rock, Alternative

One could also liken her music to listening to "alien whales singing to each other", because it has a mysterious almost trance-like quality to it. Very relaxing in many ways, but also makes great fucking music. She is frequently compared to Tori Amos on the piano and I'd compare her voice to Emiliana Torini.
We're used to seeing the cello in orchestras so this kind of alternative "cello rock" really seems like a novelty, but that is what makes it so special. Jorane was trained on guitar and piano like thousands of other musicians, but then, seemingly on a whim, she tried the cello and discovered that the deep sounds of the cello made great harmony with her singing voice.

Ricardo Rocha: Voluptuaria
Flac, log, cue | 516Mb | MP3 | 320kbps | 211Mb | covers 600dpi 50Mb
2003 | World, Ethnic, Portuguese | Label : V&A

Ricardo Rocha’s guitarra portuguesa is a beautiful instrument, more akin to mandola than guitar. Rarely heard alone, it usually accompanies fado singers. Ricardo Rocha’s voluptuária does not reject tradition, but his more adventurous coruscations show why Rocha has been called ‘the Ornette Coleman of his instrument.’

Berserker #00-01 on-going
2009 | Top Cow | CBR | English | 56 pages total | 67Mb

Berserker is about a group of people that find out that they're a part of this ancient Norse mythology and they have something in their body make-up that makes them go into a murderous rage, to literally go berserk and rip people, life and limb, apart. The scary thing is that they can't distinguish when they're going berserk. When they're "'zerking out," they can't distinguish between an enemy and a loved one. You may be in a battle and rip apart all your enemies, but you turn toward your comrades and you rip them apart, too.

The Alcoholic
2008 | Vertigo/DC Comics | Graphic Novel, Black & White | ISBN 9781401210564 | CBR | English | 140 pages | 50 Mb

Written by Jonathan Ames; Art and cover by Dean Haspiel
Jonathan A. is a boozed-up, coked-out, sexually confused, hopelessly romantic and, of course, entirely fictional novelist who bears only a coincidental resemblance to real-life writer Jonathan Ames, critically acclaimed author of Wake Up, Sir!, The Extra Man and What's Not to Love?
For the fictional Jonathan, writing and drinking come easy. The hard parts of life are love and hope. From a touching relationship between Jonathan and his aging great aunt, to an inebriated evening with an amorous, octogenarian dwarf, to the devastating aftermath of 9/11, Ames's first original graphic novel, with gritty, poignant art by Dean Haspiel (THE QUITTER), tells a story at once hilarious, excruciating, bizarre and universal, about how our lives fall to pieces and the enduring human struggle to put things back together again.

Major Bummer #1-15
1997-1998 | DC Comics | CBR | English | 146Mb
The First Inaction Hero

Two alien college students (named Zinnak and Yoof) are doing their thesis on heroes in Earth culture. To further their study, they send through the mail EEM's or Extreme Enhancement Modules that, when opened, attach themselves to the heart of the recipient endowing them with superpowers.
The main character of Major Bummer was Lou Martin. Lou was a slacker who, due to the incompetence of Yoof received an EEM instead of Martin Louis, an upwardly mobile young lawyer and philanthropist. Lou received a new muscular body that is inhumanly strong and has super-human intelligence. Unfortunately, because Lou is so lazy, he is only able to use his intelligence either subconsciously or during moments of extreme concentration. Despite this flaw, Lou was an erudite and intelligent individual already. The great irony being that his limitations were always his own fault and he enjoyed being a slacker; unlike most superheroes, gaining powers was actually an inconvenience to him. Lou's EEM was designed to attract trouble and the other superhumans whom Martin would have chosen to lead.
