In 1962, their single "Remember Then" was a hit, and "Life Is But a Dream," "Never" and "I Believe" also charted. As the oldies revival scene started a strong run in the early 1970s and 1980s, the Earls became one of the most requested groups in the doo-wop genre. They are still actively performing and remain on the oldies circuit.

The Danleers - One Summer Night (1991)
EAC | FLAC+CUE+LOG - 329 MB | Covers | MP3 CBR 320 Kbps - 135 MB
Early R&B / Doo Wop | 59:09 minutes | Label: Bear Family Records | Cat. # BCD 15503 AH

Brooklyn's Danleers had a single hit, the brilliantly moony "One Summer Night." The 25 performances here trace the group's attempts to recapture the spotlight on a variety of labels (Smash, Mercury, Epic, etc.) from 1958 to 1964. Lead singer Jimmy Weston's smooth, full-throated performances on pleading pop ballads make The Danleers perfect for slow dancin'. But "I Can't Sleep" is up 'n' at 'em, and 1960's "Little Lover," with its twangy guitar, sounds like the inspiration for Elvis's "Little Sister" a year later.

The Diamonds - Little Darling (1987)

Rock & Roll / Early R&B / Doo Wop | 43:17 minutes | Label: SPA | CD DD 7002

One of the leading cover groups of the mid-'50s, the Diamonds adapted current R&B hits into pop gold of their own. Hailing from Toronto, the Canadian quartet (consisting of Ted Kowalski, Phil Leavitt, Bill Reed, and Dave Somerville) signed with Mercury in 1955 and immediately zoomed up pop play lists with covers of the Teenagers' "Why Do Fools Fall in Love"; the Willows' "Church Bells May Ring"; and their biggest hit of all, a sanitized version of the Gladiolas hit "Little Darlin'.

The Chordettes - Lollipop (1995)
EAC-FLAC+CUE+LOG - 204 MB | Covers | MP3 CBR 320 Kbps - 101 MB
Traditional Pop / Vocal Harmonies | 43:48 minutes | Label: SPA | RMB 75083

The Chordettes were one of the longest-lived vocal groups with roots in the mainstream pop and vocal harmonies of the 1940s and early '50s. Although the four women's arrangements owed more to the Andrews Sisters than doo wop, they did, unlike many of their peers, prove fairly adaptable to the Rock era. This disc gathers 18 tracks by the Chordettes including the hit versions of "Mr. Sandman," "Eddie My Love," "Lollipop," and "Born to Be with You." Casual listeners will be satisfied with the track selection, while longtime fans will undoubtedly already own this material.

The Dominoes (also sometimes known as Billy Ward & the Dominoes) had one of the finest musical pedigrees of any R&B vocal group of the 1940s, at least based on its founder's training and experience. A lots of R&B acts came out of a gospel background, and Bo Diddley even studied violin as a boy, but rare is the R&B vocal group whose founder was trained at Juilliard. They were one of the best-selling American R&B groups of the 1950s. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2006.
