The Billy Cobham - George Duke Band - Live On Tour In Europe (1976)

When I first heard of this "supergroup", which consists of drummer Billy Cobham, keyboardist George Duke, guitarist John Scofield, and bassist/Stick player Alphonso Johnson, my expectations were high. While not exactly a grand-slam of an album, I was hooked from the first listen.
This album contains, on most tracks, a blend of funk, rock, R&B, and jazz. This is demonstrated best on the instrumental tracks "Hip Pockets", "Ivory Tattoo", "Sweet Wine", and "Juicy". These four songs are what really make the album special to me, the band just gels so well together that it amazes me how short-lived this group was. These instrumentals show the group in full democratic mode when it comes to soloing and overall representation on each track...

Billy Cobham - Magic (1977)
EAC Rip | FLAC, Image + CUE, LOG | 355 MB | MP3 CBR 320 Kbps | 121 MB | Scans | 17 MB
Jazz, Fusion | RAR 3% Rec. | RS.com, DF.com

In the 1970s, Billy Cobham was one of the most dynamic names in jazz-rock fusion. He recorded with Miles Davis and John McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra before striking out on his own. He became highly influential in jazz and rock drum sounds, with his high pitched, tuned drums and his interesting mixtures of traditional beats with experimental melodic drumming. This album is a re-release of the second of five albums...
This album was made with a fairly impressive cast of musicians including Randy Jackson on bass, Pete Escovedo on percussion, as well as Pete Maunu on guitar and Mark Soskin on keyboards. Additionally Alvin Baptiste adds clarinet on several tracks, which seems to alternate between truly innovative and simply out-of-place. Much of this album feels dated to the modern listener, especially when songs will be broken out of for extended grooves with the band doing a vocal shout chorus.

This album is constitutes by itself, a profound shift, with the invaluable support of his friends. Pat Metheny, Bob James, Peter Erskine. I knew about him for the first time with an outstanding work in collaboration with Chick Corea in Munich, where both of them simply shone. His untiring dedication, innovative search and pleasant tone make of this album a wise choice in case you accept the challenge. And believe me, this will be the first step in your collection. I swear it. There are many interesting tracks along this Cd, but my favorite is Gorgeous.

The Chick Corea New Trio - Past, Present & Futures (2001)

Jazz | RAR 3% Rec. | RS.com, DF.com

In their first offering of recorded music as a trio, the Chick Corea New Trio has masterfully interpreted ten excellent, original compositions written by Chick Corea and one jazz standard written by Thomas "Fats" Waller on their Stretch Records CD titled Past, Present, and Futures. Just as the mind interprets what the ear hears, the trio's mind builds on Corea's meticulous and beautiful inspirations and arrive at concepts that are spiritual, metaphysical, and open-minded.

...Although the new members are not as distinctive as their predecessors, the high-quality material played on this release (which includes Jimmy Heath's "CTA," "Blue Miles" and a variety of Corea originals) is very jazz-oriented and occasionally there are straightahead sections. This set is recommended even to listeners who have not yet acquired a taste for fusion.

This encounter between Chick Corea (sticking to acoustic piano), tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker, bassist Eddie Gomez, and drummer Steve Gadd lives up to one's expectations. The original program featured three lengthy "quartet" pieces, including sections dedicated to Duke Ellington and John Coltrane.

Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group Live (1977)
EAC Rip | FLAC, Image + CUE, LOG | 282 MB | MP3 CBR 320 Kbps | 108 MB | Scans | 7.9 MB
Jazz Fusion, Rock | Label: Epic Rec. (Lic. Rus) | Catalog Number: JBIHCD 29100277 | RAR 3% Rec. | DF.com, RS.com

Jeff Beck toured to promote Wired, backed by a jazz fusion group led by synthesizer player Jan Hammer. This straightforward live souvenir combines songs from Blow by Blow and Wired, plus a few other things, and while it features typically fiery playing from Beck, the backup is a bit too heavy-handed and the occasional vocals (by Hammer and drummer Tony Smith) are embarrassing.
