Amon Duul II - Vortex - 1981 (2005, SPV/Revisited SPV 085-304022/REV011)
FLAC/CUE/log/454.3 mb (+3%)/covers | MP3: 192 kbps/56.5 mb/covers
Origin: Germany | Genre: Krautrock, Psychedelic rock, rock

In 1981, Renate Knaup and original members of A.D.II try to come back with album Vortex. The sound is somewhere between VIVE LA TRANCE and MADE IN GERMANY. The cabaret sound returns for "Mona", but most of the sound is a lot more intense, as on the pulsating title song and the dramatic "Gestern ist das Heute von Morgen". This is probably the most Renate-heavy of all the albums, she sings lead (or co-lead) on every song (even the "instrumental" title track), so if you're a fan, you'd do good to check it out.

AMON DUUL II - PYRAGONY 10th - 1976 (2004, GOD CD103)
FLAC/CUE/log/280.6 mb (+3%)/covers | MP3: 320 kbps/89.3 mb
Origin: Germany | Genre: Krautrock, Psychedelic rock, rock

This album really is a new look Amon Düül II. Renate Knaup is out, along with a couple other band members, whose places are taken by guitarist/keyboardist Stefan Zauner and bassist/guitarist Klaus Ebert, both songwriters and singers. And this is more than just yer usual average clean-up: these guys practically dominate the songwriting. Weinzierl contributes one track, Karrer contributes another, the entire band collaborates on a third one, and, unsurprisingly, these three turn out to be the best compositions on here.

Amon Duul II - Made In Germany - 1975 (2008, SPV/Revisited SPV 42342/REV092)
FLAC/CUE/LOG/477.7 mb (+3%)/Covers | MP3: CBR 192 kbps/94.8 mb/covers
Origin: Germany | Genre: Krautrock, Psychedelic rock, rock

After making the transition to more structured music with albums like Wolf City, Hijack and Vive La Trance - Made In Germany was Amon Duul at it`s creative peak. It revealed solid songwriting abilities which featured orchestrations and an array of guest musicians with an underlying theme of old world traditional Germany in the new world. And unlike many European bands such as Omega, Jane and Eloy there`s no problem with the English language here and a lyric sheet is even provided. Originally released in Germany as a double album it was cut down to a single unit for North American release which suprisingly doesn`t detract from it conceptually or musically. If there is one Amon Duul album which captures the essence of 1970`s prog-rock this is it. Renate Kanup one of the few female voices to appear in progressive rock really shines here on compositions like Metropolis, Ludwig and the Blue Grotto. No comprehensive library of 1970`s progressive rock would be complete without this magnificent Krautrock gem.

Amon Duul II - Hijack - 1974 (2008, SPV/Revisited)
FLAC/CUE/log/312.2 mb (+3%)/covers | MP3: VBR 204 kbps/65.2 mb/covers
Origin: Germany | Genre: Krautrock, Psychedelic rock, rock

The band's first misfire in the studio. It's the classic lineup of Karrer/Knaup/Weinzierl/Rogner/Meid/Leopold, yet the band had gone rather void-of-course by this point. The band add strings and brass to their sound, but to little effect (the cellos on "I Can't Wait Pt.1" do make it more interesting than it might otherwise be, though). Mostly bland mainstream rock, folk rock, and even more cabaret stylings (the execrable "Lonely Woman"), plus the ludicrous "conspiracy theory rock" of "Explode Like A Star". Instead of sounding like revolutionaries as on earlier albums, they sound utterly tame, as on the cuddly sci-fi anthem "Archy The Robot".
Still, it's not a total wash. "I Can't Wait Pt.2" has some of Falk Rogner's most compelling synth work. "You're Not Alone", while seriously mainstream, is suitably moody, with lush phasing effects. And the instrumental "Da Guadeloop" offers a smidgen of the old experimentation. Curiously, it sounds mostly like Can.

Amon Duul II - Vive La Trance - 1974 (1996 & 2007 Editions)
1996: MP3: 256 kbps/83.3 mb/covers; Lossless: FLAC/CUE/log/293.6 mb (+3%)/covers
2007: Lossless: FLAC/CUE/log/464.2 mb + 3%/covers
Origin: Germany | Genre: Krautrock, Psychedelic rock, rock

Amon Düül II's album - Vive La Trance, exhibits the band continuing with the song-oriented approach that they began in earnest the year before on Wolf City. However, the slick modern production gives this album a feel that is quite unlike any of the their previous releases, even if it retains some of ADII's trademark quirks.

"Utopia" is a studio project by Olaf Kübler and Lothar Meid. Because it featured several regular members of AMON DÜÜL II (including Chris Karrer and John Weinzierl), it has usually been regarded as part of the DÜÜL discography, and, indeed, the CD reissue credits the album to AMON DÜÜL II.

Amon Duul II - Live In London - 1973 (2003 & 2007 Editions)
2003: FLAC/CUE/511 mb (+3%)/covers; MP3: 320 kbps/146 mb (+3%)/covers
2007: Lossless: FLAC/CUE/380 mb (+3%)/covers
Origin: Germany | Genre: Krautrock, Psychedelic rock, rock

In 1972 Amon Düül II embarked on their first tour of Britain, recording a show at the Greyhound club in Croydon on December 16, 1972, which was released in Britain in 1973 and in Germany one year later. Lead by the warped and psychy vocals of Renate Knaup and double guitar interplay of Chris Karrer and John Weinzierl, Live in London will certainly change the listener's current disposition. Highly experimental music with a certain flare and charm that could only be pulled off by Amon Düül II. Live in London explores some pretty dark corners of the mind with sound effects, loads of warbled and distorted guitars, keyboards and bass and drum interplay. Chris Karrer also lends some sax and violin to help aid the highly psychedelic live infestations. A great live album with some lovely improvisation and a definite trip into the depths of your mind.
Sounds magazine wrote, "Although it does seem a shame that Live In London is a relatively old recording, which doesn't take into account the development that the band has undergone since, the album still gives a very good impression of one of the more successful Amon Düül concerts."

Amon Duul II - Wolf City - 1972 (2002 & 2007 Editions)

Wolf City is the fifth studio album released by the German Krautrock band Amon Düül II. Like its predecessor, Carnival in Babylon, Wolf City is a more conventional recording than the band's earlier albums, with shorter track times and more straightforward song structures. This was likely due to the band's increasing commercial popularity, both at home and in the UK. Despite this change, the album reaffirms Amon Düül II's love for experimentation, especially on such tracks as "Jail-House Frog" and "Deutsch Nepal".

The Kinks - The Ultimate Collection - 2002
Lossless: APE/CUE/EAC log/covers/844 mb
Origin: UK | Genre: Rock

You don't know sixties music, the golden age of groups and Brit Pop, unless you know the Kinks. This double CD, which sounds great and looks good, is your best introduction to their music. The first CD of this collection contains all of their UK hits in chronological order, from their first success (You really got me) in 1964 to their last (Don't forget to dance) in 1983. All the classic songs are here including You really got me, All day and all of the night, Tired of waiting for you, Dedicated follower of fashion, Well respected man, Sunny afternoon, Waterloo sunset, Autumn almanac, Days, Lola and Apeman. It also includes Dave's two solo UK hits - Death of a clown and Susannah's still alive (inserted in their correct places chronologically between the other Kinks hits). Being presented in chronological order, this CD shows their progression from their musical roots in R+B to more of a mainstream pop group and continually changing their style thereafter. Nevertheless, their songs were always distinctive because of Ray's talent for making ordinary situations into extraordinary songs. My favourite Kinks song is Waterloo sunset, a huge UK hit but not an American hit. It is about romance at a railway station that I am familiar with, though I cannot possibly imagine what inspired Ray to write that song, but he was a genius. The second CD is less instantly appealing, containing a mix of B-sides and rarities as well as songs that were hits for others although not for the Kinks, including David Watts (a minor UK hit for punk-rockers The Jam) and Stop your sobbing (a minor UK hit for the Pretenders). If you enjoy listening to more than just the hits, you will find plenty to interest you here. The best tribute to the quality of the Kinks' songs lies in the diversity of the covers that have been recorded by singers in several genres of music. Apart from the aforementioned tracks by the Jam and the Pretenders, Kirsty MacColl (Days), the Stranglers (All day and all of the night), Petula Clark (Days - and a French version of Well respected man), Cathy Dennis (Waterloo sunset, Sunny afternoon), Green day (Tired of waiting for you), Jimmy Buffett (Sunny afternoon), Van Halen (You really got me) and Barb Jungr (Waterloo sunset) are among those who have covered Kinks songs.
Despite the brilliance of some of the covers, here you get the chance to hear the original versions of their classic songs, plus a selection of their other music.
