Nikos Kypourgos feat. Savina Yannatou - Lullabies (2009)
World, Ethnic, Easy Listening, Greek | Mp3 256 Kbps | 72,62 Mb
Label: Lyra records Released: September 11, 2009

The LYRA NANOURISMA re-released album of Nikos Kypourgos with Savina Yannatou. This time the version is sumptuous inlaid where you'll find the lyrics of songs, a brief background on the album by Nikos Kypourgos and players. Most traditional songs collected was recorded in notes, that is missing the recorded material, and that was an excuse (as noted by the composer) for larger operations. The rich material found in the collections of the Academy of Bourgault-Ducoudray, the Baud-bovy of Pernot and file Merlier, with the help of Mr Mark Dragoumis. As for the rest, Peter Perrakis searched and sent the Cretan lullaby, sung in the Peloponnese John Tsiamoulis, Southern Italy has found the disk The Greek musical tradition of Southern Italy and YPNE PAIRNEIS CHILDREN WHO found it in a old small disk of Rosa Eskenazi. I thought that even in this collection can easily include the four youngest 'artistic' Lullabies of Hadjidakis - Theodorakis and Kouroupou.

Ramses Lewis Trio - Time Flies (2004)
Jazz | Mp3 320 kbps | 150 MB
Label: Narada | Released: June 29, 2004

Ramsey Lewis' Time Flies simply shows that Ramsey is still at the top of his game. The fresh version of The In Crowd is scintillating and the rendition of Hosanna is R& B gospel at its best. The eclectic mixture of classical( Poco Allegretto from Brahms third symphony ), jazz, a dash of rock and a little blues all work for one of the best collections that I have heard in years. There isn't a second rate piece on the CD; and, nothing in this collection would ever be considered a "filler". This CD jams.

Kiyoshi Kitagawa - Prayer (2005)
Jazz | Mp3 320 kbps | 146 MB
Label: Atelier savano | Released: December 12, 2005

An even stronger follow-up to the strong previous effort Ancestry, Kiyoshi Kitagawa and his trio hit a home run with this superb album. You can't expect anything less than spectacular when you have Kenny Barron and Brian Blade watching your back, but this trio has apparently matured in the intervening two years. They dig deeply into Kitagawa's five originals as well as compositions by Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins and Ornette Coleman. The interplay is somewhat looser and there is more excitement in the air. Kitagawa's bass chops are on full display on "Oleo," a duo treatment with Blade, and album highlight "Lonely Woman" where he shows off his awesome bowing skills...

Karajan - Bizet - Carmen (2CD) (2005)
EAC | FLAC+Cue+Log | Classical, Opera | Complete Artwork/Scans | 358 MB
Label: Andante Records | Released: Nov 15, 2005

How many recordings of 'Carmen' did Herbert von Karajan make? I don't know for sure, but can recall versions with, as Carmen, Grace Bumbry, Leontyne Price and Agnes Baltsa. I suspect there may be more pirated 'Carmens' out there. This one, though, is no pirate. It's from a master tape in the archives of the Vienna Symphony and Austrian Radio -- and I'd heard it before in an awful tape many years ago; almost certainly that one was a pirate -- and it became something of a legend in its time. Recorded in concert - live, but in concert, not staged - in 1954 in, of course, mono sound (and pretty good it is, too, for its time), it brought several artists from La Scala (where Karajan had led staged versions of the opera) to Vienna for a gala concert. The singers featured are Giulietta Simionato as Carmen, the 29-year-old Nicolai Gedda as Don José, Hilde Gueden as Micaëla, Michel Roux as Escamillo, and a very young Graziella Sciutti as Frasquita. The secondary characters were primarily from La Scala (Luisa Ribacchi as Mercédès, Gino del Signore as Dancaïre, Mario Carlin as Remendado, Enzo Sordello as Moralès) and the young Viennese basso Frederick Guthrie as Zuniga. A very fine cast.

Martial Solal Newdecaband - Exposition Sans Tableau (2006)
Jazz | Mp3 320 Kbps | 113 MB
Label: Nocturne | Released: 2006

Algiers-born French pianist Solal, who has been around long enough to have played with guitar legend Django Reinhardt, is one of the undisputed giants of European jazz; his name commanded widespread respect even back in the 1950s, when "giants" and "European jazz" weren't often heard in the same sentence. The Newdecaband is an Ellington-inspired little-big band Solal has written for previously, and the group plays an all-Solal repertoire of six pieces here.

Jazz | Mp3 320 Kbps | 117 MB
Label: Enja | Released: November 2, 2002

Belgian composer/pianist Myriam Alter learned to play the piano in her childhood but left the music field for quite a while. At 36 she returned to the instrument and soon discovered her skills as a brilliant composer with an individual approach to romantic moods. Her last recording, Alter Ego, released in 1999, was warmly accepted by critics and audiences alike (Jazzman: ****, Jazz Hot: Sélection, Jazzthetik: ****, Image Hifi: First choice, Fono Forum: ****). The German magazine Jazz Thing read: “A candidate for the record of the year." And Fono Forum added: “Charming, sensitive music."
Coming from a Judeo-Spanish family (Sephardic Jewish), Myriam Alter was raised with all kinds of music such as Latin, Italian, Oriental, Spanish, South American and classical. As a piano player she was trained in classical music but later found her way into jazz. Her new album If is about all the cultural influences that have formed her as a person and as a musician...
