Eric Séva - Folklores Imaginaires (2005)
EAC | FLAC+Cue+Log | Jazz | Complete Artwork/Scans | 311 GB
Label: Buda Records | Release date: Septebre 29, 2005

Jazzman Eric Séva is an authentic and eclectic colourist very active on today’s scene in France. In spite of his multi-faceted talent in different contexts, we had no insight into the personal side of his approach – this album will set the situation to rights!
This first personal project is surprisingly fresh, and places Eric amongst those musicians who think of jazz as being linked to dance.
In his opinion, compositions tell a story, and these stories with their lilting melodies and rhythms are the perfect illustration of his desire to share his feelings with us, whilst appealing to our imagination.
“Folklores Imaginaires” invites the listener on a journey to discover his personal folklore, the stories that have shaped the inspired musician and the man he is. His chosen instruments for this adventure are unexpected to say the least. The baritone and sopranino sax lead us into his world, where his lyrical, expressive sound underlines the originality of his music.
Eric Séva places himself at the crossroads between the traditions of his musical heritage, modernity, and all he has acquired through his wide experience, symbolized by some sixty albums he’s taken part in. This one gives us the chance to discover his talent as a composer too.
His music is catching; as soon as you hear it, you’re swept off on a colourful trip through jazz and world m usic by a coherent group, whose rich and meaningful array of sounds will surprise you.

Herbert von Karajan, Wienna Philharmonic: Salzburg Festival 1964-1979 (4CD) (2003)
EAC | FLAC+Cue+Log | Classical | Complete Artwork/Scans | 1,04 GB
Label: Andante Records | Released: 2003

Truly a legend in his own time, Herbert von Karajan was both celebrated and criticized for the "beautiful" sound he cultivated over hundreds of best-selling studio recordings with the Berlin Philharmonic. This four-CD set helps answer the critics by showcasing the conductor at his most intense — live in the 1960s and '70s. Leading the Vienna Philharmonic, Karajan offers more elemental — and, arguably, his most compelling — interpretations of his signature works; highlights include Haydn's "London" Symphony, Schubert's "Unfinished," and Dvoràk's Eighth, as well as Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra and sacred works by Mozart and Bruckner.

Drawn from the Salzburg Festival archives, these recordings — dating from 1964 to 1979, with three of the four discs in stereo — were digitally remastered by Ton Eichinger Studio in Vienna.

Packaged in an eye-catching slipcase, the 120-page book features iconic photos of the conductor in action, as well as rarely seen images of the composers. The extensive texts include an introduction by Pulitzer Prize–winner Tim Page, a scene-setting note by producer Gottfried Kraus, a penetrating essay by Karajan biographer Richard Osborne ("More Psychology Than Algebra: Karajan and the Vienna Philharmonic") and detailed artist biographies from The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians. All texts appear in English, French and German.

"I remember my father saying when he was a very old man: 'Technique you can learn. But what comes out of it is what you give as a human being. Never forget that you do not operate on a dead thing. You operate on a living body.' He spoke as a doctor, but his words left a deep impression on my musical life." — Herbert von Karajan

Yaron Herman Trio - Muse (2009)
EAC | FLAC+Cue+Log | Jazz | Complete Artwork/Scans | 320 Mb
Label: Laborie Records | Released: March 09, 2009

Muse is Yaron Herman's fourth album and with it the Israeli-born/French-based pianist continues his steady progress towards a mature post-Keith Jarrett, post-Brad Mehldau style and the certainty of world ranking. Still in his late twenties, Herman set out his stall with the piano/drums duo album Takes 2 To Know 1 (Sketch, 2005), which was followed by a solo set, Variations (Laborie Records, 2006), and most recently a trio plus electronica album, A Time For Everything (Laborie Records, 2007). The new album, another trio outing, has the same personnel as its predecessor—Herman, bassist Matt Brewer and drummer Gerald Cleaver—but without an electronicist.

Daniel Yvinec - The Lost Crooners (2007)
Jazz | Mp3 VBR 192 kbps (avr.) | 86 MB
Label: BeJazz | Released: October 25, 2007

The Lost Crooners would be a great name for a band or, better still, a Roberto Bolaño novel. It's also the name of the enigmatic new trio recording by bassist Daniel Yvinec, just named next musical director of France's National Jazz Orchestra. Seven of the originals on the disc were recorded, at one point or another, by that crooner par excellence, Frank Sinatra. But here the mystery begins. Sinatra’s crooning goes back to his teen-idol days fronting the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. “Crooning” itself evokes youthful exuberance, a romantic Zeitgeist. The music on this record alludes, instead, to the latter-day Sinatra: ruing the loss of that ephemeral innocence, with a dash of Brazilian world weary decadence, not unlike the taciturn and peripatetic poet/dope dealers in Bolaño’s The Savage Detectives.

Diego Urcola - Viva (2006)
Jazz | Mp3 320 kbps | 165,66 MB
Label: Camjazz | Released: May 23, 2006
Argentinian trumpeter Diego Urcola, now resident in New York, is not well-known in Britain but he plays in groups led by Paquito D’Rivera and Dave Samuels and this album (his third CD) has an all-star cast. You might expect a set of Latin jazz from an Argentinian musician but there is a surprisingly wide range of styles on this album. The first two tracks are rather mournful, with Diego’s trumpet leading you to realise why he has been compared to Miles Davis, since he often has a similar "little boy lost" sound. But Afroraffo perks things up, with Paquito D’Rivera’s bright alto sax and Dave Samuels guesting on marimba. We return to mournfulness with El Camino, as Conrad Herwig’s trombone states a sad theme.

Elisabeth Kontomanou - Brewin' The Blues (2008)
Vocal Jazz | Mp3 320 Kbps | 108 MB
Label: Nocturne | Released: December 9, 2008

Awarded “Best Jazz Vocalist of 2006” in France (Les Victoires du Jazz), Elisabeth reaches the peak of her art with her new album “Waitin’ For Spring”. Assisted by world-class players—multi-Grammy winner John Scofield, outstanding soprano saxist Sam Newsome, brilliant French keyboarder Laurent Coq, Monk Competition winner Darryl Hall and young talent Donald Kontomanou --, she delivers vocal renditions totally fresh and yet deeply rooted in the tradition of classic jazz singing. A collection of attractive originals and indestructible standard songs—among them Hebb’s “Sunny”, Distel’s “Good Life”, Mingus’ “Duke Ellington’s Sound of Love”, Arlen’s “I Gotta Right To Sing The Blues” and others --, this album presents a great jazz vocalist with an approach that is all her own.

“She is on her way to becoming one of the great voices of the next decades” (Rap Mag).

She is as soulful as Sarah Vaughan, as smooth and mellow as Dianne Reeves and comes equipped with a fighting spirit as passionate as Nina Simone’s. She is fire and ice, earth and water, innocent and sage.-Christopher Loudon

Gill Manly - With A Song In My Heart (2009)
Vocal Jazz | Mp3 VBR 192 kbps (avr.) | 75,77 MB
Label: Linn Records | Released: January 24, 2009

Gill who? Until a decade or so ago, Gill Manly was a familiar face, a versatile singer who - like her friends Barb Jungr and Ian Shaw - could skip between blues, jazz and pop and who had built an impressive reputation as a teacher and all-round ideas machine. Serious illness then interrupted her career, and her devotion to Buddhism carried her off on a different path all together. Now she is back with an album that is easily one of the best vocal efforts of the past 12 months. 'With a Song in my Heart' is a desperately old-hat title, to be honest, and the bland cover photograph of the artist, microphone in hand, is not likely to stop many punters in their tracks. It is only when you delve deeper that you truly sense the level of sophistication. It is, perhaps, the sort of record that can only have been made by someone who has done her share of living. 'Lush Life' is the ultimate test, and Manly passes it in style. Her Soho date was a slightly more easy-going affair, the singer...

Giovanni Mirabassi - Terra Furiosa (2007)
Jazz| Mp3 VBR 192 Kbps (avr.) | 69,61 MB
Label: Discograph rec. | Released: Apil 02, 2007

« ...With Terra Furiosa, this disciple of Aldo Ciccolini and Enrico Pieranunzi records a new CD with the type of music formation he prefers, i.e piano-bass-drums, with which he started when he recorded his first CD (Architectures, 1998). The trio plays on quite a novel rhythm, with the Italian bass player Gianluca Renzi and the American drum player Leon Parker. In fact, when the three musicians meet up in the Studio of Meudon, on June 19, 2007, it is with the intention of recording only three titles for the next CD by Giovanni Mirabassi, for which Leon Parker is invited as a guest. After this short session, the musicians are thrilled : the combination of the three musicians’ talents operates very smoothly and the result is great. Listening to the recordings confirms this feeling of perfect harmony. The three musicians feel they want to prolong this moment together and decide to carry on playing. The session will last the night and they record six other tracks together. Giovanni Mirabassi thus produces an unexpected and spontaneous CD, born from shared enthusiasm. And like on his previous Cds, he has favoured the freshness of new compositions (seven out of nine titles). At 37 years old, he seems to have found the perfect partners to further his work on the jazz trio. They will both be performing with the pianist during the whole tour Terra Furiosa. » Axel Matignon - Discograph

Houston Person with Ron Carter - Just Between Friends (2008)
Jazz | Mp3 320 kbps | 130,93 MB
Label: HighNote Records Released: May 6, 2008

Just Between Friends, bassist Ron Carter and tenor saxophonist Houston Person’s first studio duo encounter since Dialogues in 2002, boasts a spot-on album title. A palpable sense of intimacy, ease and near-telepathic intuition practically radiates from the disc. A comfort zone is established by way of standards, tunes like “Lover Man,” “Alone Together” and “You’ve Changed,” that both men may have played an infinite number of times throughout their careers. But in the hands of two great instrumentalists, a perfectly constructed song, no matter its age, holds the same appeal as a favored meal. Taking their time, savoring sturdy melodies and ingenious changes, allowing the sheer beauty of their respective tones to score major points, letting offhand virtuosity speak for itself, this duo practically luxuriates in generous music-making....
