Stefano Bollani - I Visionari (2CD)(2006)
Jazz | Mp3 320 Kbps | 198,67 MB
Label: Label Bleu Released: 2006

Italian pianist Stefano Bollani surfaced as a creative sidekick for Italian trumpet legend Enrico Rava, but has also joined contemporary jazz piano (via Jarrett, Corea, Monk and Bill Evans), classical music and visits to everything from Prokofiev to Lennon/McCartney and Zappa.
Last year's Concertone was as much a classical-orchestral set as a jazz one, and this one joins Bollani and four Italian world/improv players, with walk-on parts for contemporary jazz stars Mark Feldman (violin) and Paolo Fresu (trumpet), plus singer Petra Magoni. The pieces mingle wriggly collective jazz with the soft breeze of Magoni's singing; pensive reveries for soprano sax (the excellent Mirko Guerrini) and piano with improvs for bass and drums; fiercely funky or Latin-inflected groovers with searing tenor-sax forays and fluid clarinet counter-melodies; snaking Mehldau-like jazz standard piano improvisations (Alone Together), with folksy knees-ups and circus oompah tunes. A kind of Italian Django Bates with a more orthodox lyrical sense, Bollani keeps the surprises coming, wrapped in some fine writing. A good place for newcomers to start.

Joshua Redman - Compass (2009)
Jazz | mp3 320 kbps | Full booklet scan | 176 MB
Label: Nonesuch Released: Jan. 01, 2009

Using Sonny Rollins' 1957 album, Way Out West, as a basis for his 2007 album Back East, saxophonist Joshua Redman expanded the idea of the jazz three-piece. Redman calls its follow-up, Compass, "a further exploration of the trio format . . . an expansion on, and an extension of Back East." And he's not wrong. At times, it is a dazzling album of considerable artistry. With an experienced supporting team – bassists Larry Grenadier and Reuben Rogers and drummers Brian Blade and Gregory Hutchinson, Redman stretches the players ever further, fronting both rhythm sections and, on five of the tracks here, performing with the entire line-up in a double-trio configuration...

Ginesa Ortega - Flamenca (2005)
Flamenco | Mp3 320 Kbps | 91,70 MB
Label: Picap records Released: Novembre 2005

"Flamenca" is the fourth record by Ginesa Ortega, or the sixth, if we count "Luna entre mimbres" and "Suspiro gitano", two records that the Catalan cantaora (female flamenco singer) recorded when she was fifteen years old and were re-released in 1995 with the title "Rebeldía Gitana", which is difficult to find at present. The title itself already tells the story; this new record is a return to flamenco after fusion and forays into different genres. "Flamenca" is on the same wavelength as "Siento" (1997) and it is a response to the need to periodically return to her roots, to the cante grande (expression used to refer to the more traditional and solemn forms of flamenco singing). We also find essence in the record, which is contributed by Pepe Habichuela with his guitar.

Hossein Alizadeh & Djivan Gasparyan - Endless Vision (2005)
World, Ethnic, Persian, Armenian | Mp3 320 Kbps | 163 MB
Label: World Village USA Released: 2005

This meeting of two musical masters in Tehran in the summer of 2003 was played out in front of an audience of 12,000. Armenian duduk (a cylindrical wooden flute that is often referred to as an Armenian oboe) maestro Djivan Gasparyan and Persian shurangiz (a new Iranian six-string lute) wizard Hossein Alizâdeh were backed on this occasion by Iran's Hamavayan Ensemble, and two other duduk players -- Armen Ghzaryan and Vazgen Markaryan (bass duduk) -- in a program of traditional Persian and Armenian songs. The first selection, "Birds," begins with shurangiz, hand drums, and spare duduk melodies, as two voices -- male and female -- begin to moan and then sing the poetry of Mahmoud Moshref Azad Tehrani, the most famous and controversial of Persian poets (Azad died in 2006)....

Mayte Martin - Muy Fragil (1995)
Flamenco, Latin | Mp3 320 Kbps | 143 MB
Label: Industria cultural Released: 1995

The first work by the singer in her flamenco version, in which she reveals herself as a cantaora with personality, who differs from other flamenco performers. She refuses to be pigeon-holed as a flamenco artist and flirts with other kinds of music, but critics have recognised that she has an extensive control of flamenco singing (el cante). It is a record with a strong flamenco flavour, featuring the artist´s own themes, in which Joan Albert Amargós (arrangements) and Chicuelo (guitar) take part.

London Symphony Orchestra (1904-2004): The Centennial Set (4CD) (2005)
Classical | Easy CD-DA Extractor |FLAC | No cue | No log |1,36 GB
Label: Andante records Released: January 18, 2005

This 4-CD set celebrates the 100th anniversary of the London Symphony Orchestra, tracing its development and rise to a place among the world's premier orchestras. Founded in 1904 by 46 disgruntled members of Sir Henry Wood's Queen's Hall Orchestra and 53 adventurous young colleagues, the LSO became the first self-governing, cooperatively owned English orchestra. (It was also the first to tour America.) To safeguard its autonomy, the LSO had "Principal Conductors" and guests instead of music directors; in the booklet, the players talk about them very affectionately. Observing the orchestra's evolution and its incredible responsiveness to these very different conductors is one of the fascinations on this journey through a century of music-making. Although the recorded sound is influenced by advances in technology and, in the live recordings, varying acoustics, the playing is invariably wonderful: terrific performances of great music, chosen to bring out the best in musicians and conductors...

Grobes Festspielhaus - George Szell, Beethoven, Bruckner (2CD) (2005)
Classical | FLAC | Complete Artwork/Scans | 332 MB
Label: Andante Release Date: October, 11 2005

This two CD set, recorded live at the 1961 and 1964 Salzburg Festivals and broadcast over Austrian Radio, should have two things going for it: a world-class conductor and a world-class orchestra. But the sad truth is that there is little here to make it worth even its mid-price. The reason: the sound is simply awful and, worse, the Dresden Staatskapelle sounds like a bush-league orchestra much of the time. There are far too many sour, wildly mistuned wind chords and horn clams. And the wiry sound makes the strings sound scrappy at best...
