In English Valtari translates as "steamroller" and there is something right about the title in terms of the process of its creation. The last three tracks of Valtari are like one long slow gorgeous fade out, as the listener, having been softened up by the slightly more "song-y" start to the album, is left with the subtly shifting, deep introspective beauty of the last 24 minutes. After that, penultimate track, Valtari is like the far heart of the album; eight minutes that feel like being alone in row boat on a chill day.

Spirit in the Room is pop legen Tom Jones' follow-up to 2010’s acclaimed collection of songs that was Praise and Blame, which saw Jones mark a return to his roots with work drawn from the American spiritual repertoire. Tracks featured on Spirit In The Room, include an interpretation of Tom Wait’s "Bad As Me", a rendition of Odetta’s "Hit Or Miss", the front porch blues of Vera Hall Ward’s "Travelling Shoes" and a reading of the other-worldly "Charlie Darwin" by Low Anthem.

On February 1, 2010, it was confirmed through Shirley Manson's official Facebook profile that she spent a week in the studio with her bandmates. The news came shortly after Butch Vig received a Grammy for producing American rock band Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown, which won "Best Rock Album". In the post, Manson wrote "Guess who I just spent a week in the studio with? Would you be pleased if I said one of them was called Steve and one of them was called Duke and another was a Grammy-winning producer?" In October 2010, it was officially confirmed that Garbage are recording their fifth studio album.

Shape Shifter is Carlos Santana's 36th album and the 13-song set is an instrumental tour de force featuring tracks spanning from the late 1990's to the present. The Hungarian Miklós Perényi is recognised as one of the great cellists of his generation, with a distinctive, subtly nuanced sound matched by extraordinary musicality. Here he gives his first solo recital for ECM, performing notable works by Bach, Britten and Ligeti.
