R Cabeza - Handbook of Functional Neuroimaging of Cognition, 2nd Edition (Cognitive Neuroscience)
The MIT Press | ISBN: 9780262033442 | 15/05/2006 | English | 502 pages | PDF | 2 MB

This essential resource on neuroimaging provides an accessible and user-friendly introduction to the field written by leading researchers. The book describes theoretical and methodological developments in the use of functional neuroimaging techniques to study the neural basis of cognition, from early scientific efforts to link brain and behavior to the latest applications of fMRI and PET methods. The core of the book covers fMRI and PET studies in specific domains: attention, skill learning, semantic memory, language, episodic memory, working memory, and executive functions. By introducing a technique within the description of a domain, the book offers a clear explanation of the process while highlighting its biological context. The emphasis on readability makes Handbook of Functional Neuroimaging of Cognition ideal for classroom use in advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in cognitive neuroscience.

Academic Press | ISBN: 0122272103 | 04/07/2002 | English | 2616 pages | PDF | 86 MB

In the past decade, enormous strides have been made in understanding the human brain. The advent of sophisticated new imaging techniques (e.g. PET, MRI, MEG, etc.) and new behavioral testing procedures have revolutionized our understanding of the brain, and we now know more about the anatomy, functions, and development of this organ than ever before. However, much of this knowledge is scattered across scientific journals and books in a diverse group of specialties: psychology, neuroscience, medicine, etc. The Encyclopedia of the Human Brain places all information in a single source and contains clearly written summaries on what is known of the human brain.

D.C. Watts - Elsevier's Dictionary of Plant Lore
Academic Press | ISBN: 0123740861 | 02/05/2007 | English | 488 pages | PDF | 2 MB

Knowledge of plant names can give insight into largely forgotten beliefs. For example, the common red poppy is known as "Blind Man" due to an old superstitious belief that if the poppy were put to the eyes it would cause blindness. Many plant names derived from superstition, folk lore, or primal beliefs. Other names are purely descriptive and can serve to explain the meaning of the botanical name. For example, Beauty-Berry is the name given to the American shrub that belongs to the genus Callicarpa. Callicarpa is Greek for beautiful fruit. Still other names come from literary sources providing rich detail of the transmission of words through the ages.

Andrew Matthews - Happiness in a Nutshell
Seashell Books | ISBN: 0957757264 | 30/06/2000 | English & Chinese | 80 pages | PDF | 2 MB

The hugely popular pocket book of Andrew Matthews' favorite sayings.

Andrew Matthews is one of my favorite authors. Having read Follow Your Heart, Making Friends, and Being Happy, Happiness in a Nutshell is a tiny little back pocket sized 80-page "Nutshell" synopsis of material contained in those books. Andrew is also an artist who draws funny cartoons to reinforce his points. This is a great coffee table book to read now and then to remind ourselves that we are what we think and that we can be happy if we choose to.

I recommend this book for people of all ages and nationalities. It is a great gift item. Though short it contains essential life lessons that many of us loose sight of.
