1991 album from the 'King Of Ska' Desmond Dekker finds him re-recording many of his classic hits including "Get Up Edina", "The More You Live" and "Achawhawha". Some great re-interpretations shows that the man has lost none of his creative flair.

Desmond Dekker (July 16, 1941 — May 25, 2006) was a Jamaican ska and reggae singer and songwriter. Together with his backing group, The Aces (consisting of Wilson James and Easton Barrington Howard), he had one of the first international Jamaican hits with "Israelites". Other hits include "007 (Shanty Town)" (1967) and "It Miek" (1969). Before the ascent of Bob Marley, Dekker was one of the most popular musicians within Jamaica, and one of the best-known musicians outside it.

Skynyrd meets AC/DC!

It is surely a shame that the talent these guys had didn't allow them to get more exporsure in the mainstream before tragedy cashed them out of the rock and roll scene. In short, this is ONE GREAT CD! Too bad more bands don't emulate or aspire to this high level of rocking, stomping, kicking music. Of course, today's record companies wouldn't know what to do with such a genuine band on their label anyway! These guys are/were great. God Bless them! [Amazon user review]

lf you're curious enough about the Five Americans to want more than a greatest hits collection, this 1966 album is a worthwhile supplement. Ten of the 12 cuts are group originals, and they lean toward the gutsier side of what this sometimes pop-oriented act could offer, with occasional influences of Beau Brummels-like folk-rock. Most of the songs are not on their CD best-of (Western Union), and this disc adds previously unreleased alternate takes of "The Train" and "Good Times." [AMG]

The Blues Magoos were one of the most underrated U.S. bands of the late '60s, known almost exclusively for their one irresistible hit "(We Ain't Got) Nothing Yet," which charted at number five in July 1967. Kaleidescopic Compendium: The Best of the Blues Magoos confirms the group's depth. The disc compiles a generous 23 tracks from their first three albums and a brace of single sides. The group's psychedelia holds up better than most from the period. Andy Sandoval's four-page history of the group is concise, complete, and entertaining. [AMG]

Formed in 1964 in San Jose, California, USA, Count Five were a classic one-hit wonder whose Yardbirds-inspired psychedelic-punk hit Psychotic Reaction, reached the US Top 5 in 1966. They first drew attention by wearing Dracula-style capes to their gigs. After recording one album, also titled PSYCHOTIC REACTION, they continued to release singles before disbanding in 1969.

Nearly two-and-a-half hours of madman rockin' music from the late Johnny Kidd's backing band, dating from their successful resurrection in 1976 at the behest to faithful disciple Wilko Johnson. Including all three reunion albums as well as several rare singles and previously unissued material, this is ear-opening stuff for the most part. A generation older than their punk contemporaries, legendary Mick Green and his men make most of that breed sound like pretenders. Listen to All In It Together and you hear a great single. Listen to Please Don't Touch or Something Very Strange and you hear where Dr Feelgood got their act. Though bassist Johnny Spence's vocals sometimes flirt with blackface this is largely ace stuff, perfect to accompany that sixth pint!

Year of the Horse is also a live album by Neil Young & Crazy Horse, released in 1997.

This live album, in many ways could be seen as an epitaph for longtime Neil Young producer David Briggs, who died in 1995 from lung cancer. This is reflected by the song choices which (outside of recent album cuts like "Scattered" and "Big Time") were among Brigg's favorites.
