Mozart supplied trumpet and timpani parts to the score of Viotti’s Concerto No 16 in 1785.

Georg Philipp Telemann (March 14, 1681 – June 25, 1767) was a German Baroque music composer and multi-instrumentalist, born in Magdeburg. Self-taught in music, he studied law at the University of Leipzig. Often described as the most prolific composer in history (at least in terms of surviving oeuvre), he was a contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi and a lifelong friend of George Frideric Handel. While in the present day Bach is generally thought of as the greater composer, Telemann was more widely renowned for his musical abilities during his lifetime.

Festetics Quartet

No one is quite sure who Franz Grill was or where he came from; it is certain that he was not native to Hungary, though he pursued his musical career and made his modest reputation there, and it is certain that he died in 1792 while working as a butler and manservant in the city of Sopron, near Vienna. He was approximately thirty-six years old when he died, making him a direct contemporary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, to whom his string quartets owe a clear debt...

George Onslow - String Quintets, Opp. 33 & 74
Classical | EAC Rip | FLAC, CUE, NO LOG | 1 CD | Covers | 262 Mb | rs.com | 2004
Ensemble Conertant Frankfurt

George Onslow is a very special figure in the history of music: largely and unanimously acknowledged when he was alive, he is now nearly forgotten and his works, mainly devoted to string chamber music, are almost missing from the repertoire, partly due to the fact that they haven’t been available in a modern edition for more than a century. But actually he was a leading composer of musical life in the first half of nineteenth century. He will be played by the greatest musicians of his time and his name is next to Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, of whom people say he is the only worthy successor. Nicknamed "the French Beethoven", he is the only musician, at least in France, who devotes himself to chamber music. Composing 36 quartets and 34 quintets, Onslow leaves us exceptionnal works.

Alessandro Rolla - 6 Trio Concertate, Op. 1
Classical | EAC Rip | Flac, CUE, NO LOG | 2 CD | Covers | 641 Mb | rs.com | 2003
Budapest String Trio

Alessandro Rolla (22 April 1757 - 15 September 1841) was widely acknowledged in his time as a violin and, especially, viola virtuoso, composer and teacher, though now practically unknown. His contribution to technique, repertoire and history of music is greatly underestimated. His style varies from the very melodic phrases, typically operatic in character, rich in fiorituras, to the extremely virtuoso writing, the style we are used to identify with Paganini. Ingredients of this technique are an ample use of double stops, fast passages in thirds and sixths, octaves from the first to the eighth position, very fast ascending and descending diatonic and chromatic scales, flying staccato, left-hand pizzicato.
