Joni Mitchell’s Shadows and Light is a doubly terrific treat for music lovers. For her fans, of course, it’s a legendary 1979 concert showcasing the singer/songwriter in full artistic glory. And for modern jazz lovers, it marks the chance to see a band of musicians that can be called nothing less than a supergroup.

This DVD is a real winner as it is taken from those old musical shorts and a 1960s television series all American I'd say. The presentation and picture quality is excellent and the sound, the most important, is very good too. It is interesting to see the very well known big bands mixed in with the lesser known of the period.

In the early 1950s, trumpeter-vocalist Chet Baker was the "James Dean of jazz." Blessed with good looks and a lyrical and lean trumpet style, Baker arrived on the scene in California at the age of 22, when the great alto saxophonist Charlie Parker invited him to work in his band.

There is no other blues style that combines the sound of rock 'n' roll and rhythm & blues from the 1950s so perfectly as the Chicago Blues. Chicago, the "Windy City", created a blues that is unique and "rough" in form, sound and feeling.

A 60 minutes documentary film 'Shakti Timeless' which tells the story of the Indo-western music group Shakti. Formed in 1975, the group pioneered a groundbreaking and highly influential music East-meets-West approach. In the 70s, the group, whose name means creative intelligence, beauty and power, consisted of legendary British jazz guitarist John McLaughlin, North Indian tabla master Zakir Hussain and violinist L. Shankar and ghatam [percussion] player T.H. 'Vikku' Vinayakram, both of whom hail from South India.

This concert should definitely prove a winner for listeners who prefer the straight-ahead, swinging, Count Basie-indebted Buddy Rich ensembles of the mid-to-late 1970s to the somewhat rock-heavy sonic barrage of the band assembled by the legendary drummer and bandleader at the close of the 1960s.
Even though the video catches the band just after the departure of some key Rich players like trumpeter Dave Stahl and pianist Barry Kiener, it still features Rich's right-hand man, tenor saxophonist Steve Marcus, along with a tight-knit ensemble of players with strong soloists in all sections.

Grover Washington, Jr. (December 12, 1943 - December 17, 1999) was an American jazz-funk / soul-jazz saxophonist. Along with George Benson, John Klemmer, David Sanborn, Bob James, Chuck Mangione, Herb Alpert, and Spyro Gyra, he is considered by many to be one of the founders of the smooth jazz genre. He wrote some of his material and later became an arranger and producer.

The U.K. Subs were part of the original punk movement in England that formed in 1976, with the initial name of the Subversives. The band's founder, Charlie Harper selected guitarist Nicky Garratt, bassist Paul Slack, and various drummers (eventually Pete Davis became fairly stable) under the initial name "U.K. Subversives". The London based band's early line-up changed frequently.
Their style combined the energy of punk and the rock and roll edge of the then thriving pub rock scene. The band had some hit singles such as "Stranglehold", "Warhead", "Teenage", and "Tomorrow's Girls", with several of their songs managing to enter the United Kingdom's Top Forty.

Heart, with the Wilson sisters, has been rocking away for about four decades. Their 2010 album release, Red Velvet Car, was a commercial success, reaching number 10 on the American album charts. It was a nice return to their hard rock/acoustic roots.
They have now sold in excess of 35 million albums worldwide. Heart brought their 2010 tour into their hometown of Seattle for a performance at the Experience Music Project, Seattle's Rock 'N' Roll Museum, on March 5, 2010. The cameras were rolling as Heart performed material from all parts of their career.

America: A Tribute to Heroes was a benefit concert organized by producer Joel Gallen and actor George Clooney and broadcast by the four major United States television networks in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon.
Done in the style of a telethon, it featured a number of national and international entertainers performing to raise money for the victims and their families, particularly but not limited to the New York City firefighters and New York City police officers.
