The Chieftains - Live Over Ireland: Water From The Well (2006)
DVD-5 | Runtime: 110 min. | 4,19 GB | Copy: Untouched
Video: PAL, MPEG-2, 720 x 576 (1.778) at 25.000 fps | Audio: Dolby Digital 2 at 256 Kbps, Dolby Digital 5.1 at 448 Kbps, 48.0 KHz
Genre: Celtic, Folk | Label: Eagle Vision | Covers: Full Scan

The original traditional Irish folk band, as far as anyone who came of age in the 1970s or 1980s is concerned, is the Chieftains. Their sound, built largely on Paddy Moloney's pipes, is otherworldly, almost entirely instrumental, and seems as though it comes out of another age of man's history. That they became an international phenomenon in the '70s and '80s is testament to their virtuoso musicianship.
The Chieftains were first formed in Dublin during 1963, as a semi-professional outfit, from the ranks of the top folk musicians in Ireland.

With their ringing, bagpipe-like guitars and the anthemic songs of frontman Stuart Adamson, Scotland's Big Country emerged as one of the most distinctive and promising new rock bands of the early '80s, scoring a major hit with their debut album, The Crossing; though the group's critical and commercial fortunes dimmed in the years to follow, they nevertheless outlasted virtually all of their contemporaries, releasing new material into the next century.

When a band really succeeds live, they have the power to take the audience on a trip. Whether you’re front row or 100 yards away, the sonic flood carries you far from the stank bar or atmospherically challenged hockey arena you’re standing in. And it’s this fundamental capacity to transcend that is too often scorched by treacherous concert DVDs. Instead of luring the home audience into unfettered immersion, the producers of these videos tend to spotlight their own performances.
