“

A strikingly gifted multi-instrumentalist with an intuitive understanding of American roots music styles and a sly sense of humor, David Bromberg has earned a following for his many solo recordings and has served as a sideman and collaborator with some of the most respected artists in his field. David Bromberg was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 19, 1945, and spent most of his childhood in Tarrytown, New York. As a teenager, Bromberg got hooked on rock & roll and began exploring the blues, folk, and country artists that informed early rock, such as Pete Seeger, Reverend Gary Davis, Muddy Waters, Flatt & Scruggs, and Bill Monroe.

”

Joan Baez - Life Peace (2007)
DVD-5 | Runtime: 30 min. | 0,96 Gb | Copy: Untouched

“

This is a very worthwhile DVD albeit a bit on the short side. It is good to see vintage Joan Baez from 1969 and 1972,also to see the late Mimi Farina as well. Having seen Joan recently and hearing her sing 'Mary Hamilton ' (the first time she has sung it in a concert I have attended) it was lovely to see a very early video of her singing it at Newport. She also sings my favourite song ' Joe Hill ' and also a song about Mimi called 'Sir Galahad'.

”

The real find on this disc is Womack's 'teardrops' from 1988..hardly legends of soul but a good late '70's to 80's memory refresher which if you are a Video Jock essential other wise for civvies after a viewing is likely to stay on the shelf until the houseparty.

”

“

John Fahey is one of acoustic music's true innovators and eccentrics. He was a crucial figure in expanding the boundaries of the acoustic guitar over the last few decades. His music was so eclectic that it's arguable whether he should be defined as a 'folk' artist. In a career that saw him issue several dozen albums, he drew from blues, Native American music, Indian ragas, experimental dissonance and pop.

”

“

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Marc Bolan was one of the major glam rock figures of the early '70s, especially in England. After releasing his debut solo single, "The Wizard," and its follow-ups, "The Third Degree" and "Hippy Gumbo," on Decca Records in the U.K. in 1965-1966, he joined the band John's Children in 1967. They made three albums, My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair but Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows (1968), Prophets, Seers and Sages, the Angels of the Ages (1968), and Unicorn (1969), then split, with Bolan retaining the band name and teaming up with Mickey Finn on the electric Beard of Stars (1970).

”

“

After Pentangle split in 1973, Bert Jansch returned to his prolific solo career but missed playing in a group context. The Bert Jansch Conundrum came into existence as the 1970s waned. Jansch recorded a solo album called A Rare Conundrum in 1977, with mandolinist Rod Clements and fiddler Mike Piggott as supporting players. When Piggott was unable to go out on a Scandinavian tour, Martin Jerkins hired on to play violin on the dates. They hit it off and Nigel Portman-Smith came aboard to play bass. They toured Europe and America. Bert recalled: “I got to know Martin in that period between the original Pentangle splitting up and the beginning of the eighties. I knew him pretty well and we did a lot of gigs together.

”

His ‘all’ is the Blues. Guy can tell you stories of his great-grandparents and his grandparents, they’re days as track linemen, and of their interactions with the KKK. Bibb was raised in a music-filled household, as family friends in the 1950s and 1960s included Pete Seeger, Odetta, Bob Dylan, and the late Paul Robeson, who was named Eric’s godfather. Bibb got his first steel guitar at age seven, and he got some advice from Dylan that he never forgot, to “keep it simple, forget all that fancy stuff.” When he was 16, his father asked him to play guitar in the house band for his TV talent show, Someone New.

”

Comprised of Craig Armstrong on Piano, Antye Greie-Fuchs (AGF) providing the vocals and Vladislav Delay adding manipulation and beats.
Armstrong's piano works provides us with a different side to his work. At times his work sounds quite jazzy.
This is great album which deserves people's attention.

”

There weren’t too many that were part of the Motown group that I didn’t like. Marvin Gaye was a part of Motown. He was considered the Prince of Motown and yes I was a fan of his music. Some of his biggest hits includes “You’re a Wonderful One”, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”, and “What’s Going On?”.
