Now here is a jazz pianist you might not have heard of. Denny Zeitlin is considerd an excellent jazz pianist but seems to play only as a sort of hobby. His day job is psychiatry.....well forget the day job...

Well I've been surfing around the Net trying to get hold of some of the 'history' guitarists. There do not seem to be many available! A lot of the lesser known players were basically group members or session players, so didn't release many solo albums.

Some consider Martin Taylor to be the best (living) jazz Guitarists. This album covers a numbers of unaccompanied instrumentals and a few duets with Chet Atkins.

Some of you might remeber galmuchet's post that I mentioned before. Here is another guitarist that appeared on the albums within that post - Oscar Aleman.

Larry Carlton - No Substitutions

In fact this album features both Larry Carlton and Steve Lakuther and is a live set (so you might want to merge the tracks - check it out). 'Room 355' features on the album (which was mentioned in a respoonse to a previous publication).

I am having a few problems uploading at the moment so I've had to hold on the 'history'. However here is something a bit more modern.

If you scroll a couple of pages or so - or go to the music section - you will find a post from galmuchet. It is a 4 CD box set covering the 'history of jazz guitar'. Well that is probably the history of guitarists on that label but even so I thought it might be an idea to expand on that 'history' - to create a sort of 'Avax jazz guitar history', posting albums by the players featured in the box set.

I was pleased to get hold of a copy of this the other day. The artist may not be as familiar to you as that of Stephane Grappelli - but they play with a similar (jazz) style.
This then is jazz swing violin (instrumental) music played by a superb musician.

Jimi Hendrix - Live at Woodstock

I guess there is no need to introduce this guy. Here he is at possibly the best Rock Festival ever - who knows. The festival certainly marked the beginning of the end of an era.

I did a search but couldn't find that anyone had posted this before - but if it is a repost, my apologies.

Chris Botti - A 1000 Kisses Deep and Leonard Cohen 10 New Songs

The album title of, and best track on, the Chris Botti CD ('A 1000 Kisses Deep') is taken from a Leonard Cohen album (track 2 of '10 New Songs').

Here is a superb contemporary jazz album featuring the Guitarist Michael Occhiponti. The album features instrumental interpretations of the songs of Bruce Cockburn. if you are not a fan of Cockburn's it won't matter for these are excellent pieces of music that stand independent of their source. Having said that, Cockburn fans will recognise the source and willnot be disappointed.
