Advent Calendar Days 4b and 5b: Herb Albert and Ottmar Liebert

Already the Christmas celebrations are kicking in - that's why I feel asleep in front of the PC last night! So here a litle late is day 4b - Herb Albert: 'The Tijuana Brass Christmas Album'. Cut at 128 kps:

Advent Calendar Day 2b: Chet Atkins

Looking behind the little paper door today I find Chet Atkins - 'East Tennessee Christmas'. Not his best Christmas album but the addition of strings and occasional chorus do not detract from his excellent technique. An enjoyable album but possibly more as a Christmas album.

Well I looked at my Advent Calendar today and I then saw that someone else had posted the album I was going to post. So I ripped up THAT Calendar and got a new one! (I mean today actiually IS the first day of Advent proper after all)

So I will start again at Day 1 but, to avoid confusion, (lol) I will call it Day 1b, 2b, etc till we reach Day 6.

Advent Calendar: Day 4 - Joe Pass

Jazz instrumental and cut at 192 kps

Here is someone who needs no introduction if you are a jazz fan. One of the best Christmas jazz albums ever – Joe pass and “Six String Santa”.

So what is behind the Calendar flap today? Ah ha (!) John Fahey - 'Christmas Guitar (Varrick)'

If you are not too familiar with John Fahey, he is a guitar instrumentalist. However that is an inadequate description as his work covers a wide range of musical genres. He also uses many unique tunings for his guitar.

I lifted the cover for day 2 of my Calendar and I found a Reggae Christmas awaiting me. Here is what Steve Leggett of allmusic.com had to say about the album:

Today is Advent Sunday and marks the 'official' start of the countdown to Christmas. As it happens I have a Christmas Album Advent Calendar and each day till Christmas I will post one of the albums. Some may have been posted here before but I am sure that they will be wanted by someone.

Here's an instrumental jazz album by two extremely good guitarists.

I uploaded this in response to a request but the files haven't been downloaded yet. Maybe there's been a change of mind - whatever - I don't want to waste the links, so here they are.

This is Jean-Luc Ponty's 'Individual Choice' and it was released in 1983. It represented a new direction for Ponty in that it was his first recording to significantly feature the use of synthesisers and sequencers. (Though he still plays the electric violin). This was s significant progression in his work.
