AND
The Tain | MP3 | 192 Kbps | 58 Mb

Founded in Dublin in 1970, this folk-rock band the first and possibly the original purveyors of the term ‘Celtic Rock’. At one point, they enjoyed a bigger fan base (domestically) than Rory Gallagher, THIN LIZZY and The BOOMTOWN RATS put together. Often likened stylistically to STEELEYE SPAN and FAIRPORT CONVENTION, they drew on their distinctly Irish roots to combine traditional Celtic mysticism with driving hard rock. This offering is a little from the world Celtic Rock. If you enjoy the music many of the tunes also appear in recordings of the Chieftains. Derag Doom on the Tain is O'Neills Cavalry.

Definitely the most SILLY musical conglomeration the UK ever produced, the Bonzos were one of a kind, their style of humor was never to be repeated . Anarchy, madness , rudeness and spontaneity were their watchword and they were capable of almost any sort of weirdness on a good night. There were those who were inspired by their work such as the wacky Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias - who came along in the late 70s - but good though they were ,these were mere amateurs compared to the Bonzos.

In 1962, Paddy Moloney, an uillean piper from Dublin, along with Martin Fay, fiddle and bones, Seán Potts, tin whistle, Micheal Tubridy, flute, and a friend of Paddy's, bodhrán player, David Fallon met to record a one-time album for Garech a Brún's Claddagh label under the title of The Ch i e ft a i n s, was released in 1963. The musicians involved in recording of this album were already familiar with each others talents from playing together in Seán Ó Ríada's folk orchestra, Ceoltóirí Cualann, and from various sessions in and around Dublin since the late 1950s. 44 Years on they are still producing wonderful music. My collection through the 80’s and 90’s is partial only.
