Lou Christie - Glory River- The Buddah Years 1968-1972 (1992)

Although he is best known for scoring hits like "Lightning Strikes" and "Rhapsody in the Rain" during the mid-1960s, Lou Christie continued to record long after that time and a valuable chunk of his recording legacy is captured on Glory River: The Buddah Years 1968-1972. Only a handful of the songs contained in this compilation achieved chart success (the most notable hit being "I'm Gonna Make You Mine"), but the other songs are much more than just failed pop-chart fodder. Christie wrote much of his own material, so the songs presented here have a much more personal touch and tend to be more adventurous than a lot of pop music being produced around this time.

Rock | 1988 Rhino | 5% recovery record | Source: internet

While Lou Christie's shrieking falsetto was among the most distinctive voices in all of pop music, he was also one of the first solo performers of the rock era to compose his own material, generating some of the biggest and most memorable hits of the mid-'60s. This is an excellent collection of his hits.

It's difficult to object to anything about The SMiLE Sessions, considering the time and care invested into the entire package (which becomes yet more lavish with the varying Deluxe Editions available).

This is a great collection of Doo Wop tunes from back in the day! 587 tracks total. Lots of rare tunes from lots of groups. If you like Doo Wop and you don't have this series, you will want these. As I once read on a Doo Wop site, "Rock and Roll may be here to stay but Doo Wop never left". This series consists of 20 volumes and it is long out of print.

Still the definitive Crystals retrospective nearly a decade after its release, ABKCO's The Best of the Crystals gathers their most beloved singles, including "Uptown," "He's a Rebel," "Da Doo Ron," and "Then He Kissed Me"; the infamous withdrawn single "He Hit Me (It Felt Like a Kiss)"; and relatively obscure songs such as "What a Nice Way to Turn 17," "Look in My Eyes," and "I Wonder."

Here is Lobo's first big hit single but the value here to Lobo fan's is the B side, "Walk Away From It All" which has never been issued on any LP or CD. Basically, if you don't own the original issue 45 you probably have never heard this track and can't get it anywhere else. This was also the first Big Tree single to be distributed by Ampex Records.

This combines the Mar-Keys' first two albums, Last Night! and Do the Pop-Eye (both from 1962), onto one CD, with nine pages of historical liner notes by Stax authority Rob Bowman. "Last Night" was a great early-'60s instrumental rock hit, and an important one in helping to establish the basic sound of Stax soul music.

EAC, FLAC tracks, CUE+LOG | Artwork | 506 MB
Rock | 5% recovery record | Source: Internet - Black Rose Records

For the first time on CD format, Collectables Records released both Mashmakhan albums (minus one inferior song from the Family album due to time restraints) together in one package. Looking back, Mashmakhan was ahead of their time; they did progressive rock for a commercial audience when prog was supposed to be for the underground. They incorporated flutes and strings in songs when hard rock was dominant, and they were one of the first Canadian acts to become international stars. This CD will finally give people a chance to judge for themselves what the fuss was all about.

Country/Folk | 5% recovery record | Source: Original CD rip

This is the debut album by Dutch singer/songwriter Janet Hardorff. She is quite popular in her native country, performs frequently at concerts and several of her songs have gotten quite a bit of airplay on the country radio stations in New Zealand. She wrote many of the songs on this album which was recorded at Robert Wiersma Studio in Groningen, Netherlands. Her singing is accompanied by her acoustic guitar playing and she is currently working on a new album. This rip is made from an original CD she gave to her friend, Zedy (Yes, the Avax member). Janet's album reminds me of Judy Collin's acoustic tracks. This is an excellent CD.

The Chantels - The Best Of The Chantels (1990)
EAC, FLAC image, CUE+LOG | Artwork | 238 MB
Rock | 5% recovery record | Source: Internet - 1990 Rhino

The Chantels were rock & roll's first great female group. This 18-track best-of gathers all of their important recordings for George Goldner's End label, along with some rarities amongst the hits. In addition to the smashes "Maybe," "He's Gone," and "Every Night," the set also includes their work with Richard Barrett and their one-off single backing Willie Wilson, issued as the Tunemasters. An interesting chapter of the distaff side of rock & roll history.
