Joshua Rifkin - Scott Joplin Piano Rags
MP3 | 192Kbps | 97 Mb | RS | Released 1970-72 | CD 1987
Genre: Jazz, Ragtime

Joshua Rifkin (born April 22, 1944 in New York) is an American conductor, keyboard player, and musicologist. He is best known by the general public for having played a central role in the ragtime revival in the 1970s with the three albums he recorded of Scott Joplin's works for Nonesuch Records. The albums - which were presented as classical music recordings - were critically-acclaimed, commercially successful and led to other artists exploring the ragtime genre. Rifkin's work as a revivalist of Joplin's work immediately preceded the adaptation of Joplin's music by Marvin Hamlisch for the film The Sting (1973).

Egberto Gismonti - Trem Caipira
MP3 | 320Kbps | 92 Mb | 1985 | Covers
Latin American, Brazilian, Instrumental

On Trem Caipira, Gismonti reworks music by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, mainly with a synthesizers-sound and an acoustic band. A project like this could go awfully wrong. Well, it doesn't. In spite of the fact that some of those synths sounds are hopelessly dated, the music has a charm of its own. This is due to the quality of Gismonti's arrangements, to the musicians who add warmth with their acoustic instruments, and last not least, to the music of Villa-Lobos.
