Material from this concert has been issued on Peepers Part 1 (700 copies on Laughing Clown Records), Peepers Parts 2 & 3 (2 LP) (350 copies on Laughing Clown Records), Project-Object (3200 vinyl copies as Mud Shark MZ3604, and on CD as Archivo ARC CD 003 and Three Cool Cats TCC 046), Guitar Player - Live 1978 (Fire Power FP-0055) and in Europe as a picture disc called Moe's Vacation (200-copy edition).

This recording is listed as being from various different dates and radio stations. The correct info is hopefully what is listed here. Frank says that they are on CKGM in track 7. CKGM-FM changed to CHOM-FM in October of 1971, and since this tape is often listed as being from November, 1971, the confusion on the radio station has been common. But a close listen reveals that it is CKGM and since Bob Harris is in the band, it has to be from mid-'71.
The Mothers did a live show in Montreal on July 4th, 1971 and this recording was apparently from much later that night (They comment more than once about how it's the middle of the night).

Dexter Gordon had such a colorful and eventful life (with three separate comebacks) that his story would make a great Hollywood movie. The top tenor saxophonist to emerge during the bop era and possessor of his own distinctive sound, Gordon sometimes was long-winded and quoted excessively from other songs, but he created a large body of superior work and could battle nearly anyone successfully at a jam session.

Guitarist Freddie King rode to fame in the early '60s with a spate of catchy instrumentals which became instant bandstand fodder for fellow bluesmen and white rock bands alike.

Dave Brubeck has long served as proof that creative jazz and popular success can go together.

The Big Band era is generally regarded as having occurred between the years 1935 and 1945. It was the only time in history that the popularity of jazz music eclipsed all other forms of music in the U.S. Rightly or wrongly the appearance of Benny Goodman and his big band at the Palomar in Los Angeles in August of 1935 is often referred to as the official start of the Swing era.

Count Basie was among the most important bandleaders of the swing era. With the exception of a brief period in the early '50s, he led a big band from 1935 until his death almost 50 years later, and the band continued to perform after he died.

This 1977 session, which combines Lionel Hampton and Gerry Mulligan with a strong rhythm section (Hank Jones, Bucky Pizzarelli, George Duvivier, Grady Tate and Candido Camero) seems to be Mulligan's date.
