Cosmopolitan Communications: Cultural Diversity in a Globalized World
446 pages | Cambridge University Press; 1 edition (August 31, 2009) | ISBN-10: 0521493684 | PDF | 1 Mb

Societies around the world have experienced a flood of information from diverse channels originating beyond local communities and even national borders, transmitted through the rapid expansion of cosmopolitan communications. For more than half a century, conventional interpretations, Norris and Inglehart argue, have commonly exaggerated the potential threats arising from this process. A series of fire-walls protect national cultures. This book develops a new theoretical framework for understanding cosmopolitan communications and uses it to identify the conditions under which global communications are most likely to endanger cultural diversity. The authors analyze empirical evidence from both the societal level and the individual level, examining the outlook and beliefs of people in a wide range of societies. The study draws on evidence from the World Values Survey, covering 90 societies in all major regions worldwide from 1981 to 2007. The conclusion considers the implications of their findings for cultural policies.

The Integrated Architecture Framework Explained: Why, What, How
200 pages | Springer; 1st Edition. edition (October 8, 2010) | ISBN-10: 3642115179 | PDF | 5 Mb

This book captures and communicates the wealth of architecture experience Capgemini has gathered as a member of The Open Group – a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium formed by major industry players – in developing, deploying, and using its “Integrated Architecture Framework” (IAF) since its origination in 1993. Today, many elements of IAF have been incorporated into the new version 9 of TOGAF, the related Open Group standard. The authors, all working on and with IAF for many years, here provide a full reference to IAF and a guide on how to apply it. In addition, they describe in detail the relations between IAF and the architecture standards TOGAF and Archimate and other development or process frameworks like ITIL, CMMI, and RUP. Their presentation is targeted at architects, project managers, and process analysts who have either considered or are already working with IAF – they will find many roadmaps, case studies, checklists, and tips and advice for their daily work.

Practical Design Verification
288 pages | Cambridge University Press; 1 edition (July 20, 2009) | ISBN-10: 0521859727 | PDF | 1 Mb

Improve design efficiency and reduce costs with this practical guide to formal and simulation-based functional verification. Giving you a theoretical and practical understanding of the key issues involved, expert authors including Wayne Wolf and Dan Gajski explain both formal techniques (model checking, equivalence checking) and simulation-based techniques (coverage metrics, test generation). You get insights into practical issues including hardware verification languages (HVLs) and system-level debugging. The foundations of formal and simulation-based techniques are covered too, as are more recent research advances including transaction-level modeling and assertion-based verification, plus the theoretical underpinnings of verification, including the use of decision diagrams and Boolean satisfiability (SAT).

Network Algorithmics,: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Designing Fast Networked Devices
496 pages | Publisher: Morgan Kaufmann (December 29, 2004) | ISBN-10: 0120884771 | PDF | 2 Mb

In designing a network device, you make dozens of decisions that affect the speed with which it will performsometimes for better, but sometimes for worse. Network Algorithmics provides a complete, coherent methodology for maximizing speed while meeting your other design goals. Author George Varghese begins by laying out the implementation bottlenecks that are most often encountered at four disparate levels of implementation: protocol, OS, hardware, and architecture. He then derives 15 solid principlesranging from the commonly recognized to the groundbreakingthat are key to breaking these bottlenecks. The rest of the book is devoted to a systematic application of these principles to bottlenecks found specifically in endnodes, interconnect devices, and specialty functions such as security and measurement that can be located anywhere along the network.

Enterprise Interoperability IV: Making the Internet of the Future for the Future of Enterprise
500 pages | Springer; 1st Edition. edition (April 14, 2010) | ISBN-10: 1849962561 | PDF | 9 Mb

Enterprise Interoperability is the ability of an enterprise or organisation to work with other enterprises or organisations without special effort. It is now recognised that interoperability of systems and thus sharing of information is not sufficient to ensure common understanding between enterprises. Knowledge of information meaning and understanding of how is to be used must also be shared if decision makers distributed between those enterprises in the network want to act consistently and efficiently. Industry’s need for Enterprise Interoperability has been one of the significant drivers for research into the Internet of the Future. EI research will embrace and extend contributions from the Internet of Things and the Internet of Services, and will go on to drive the future needs for Internets of People, Processes, and Knowledge.
