Berlioz - Harold In Italy (2007)
1 CD | EAC Rip | FLAC(TRACKS) + CUE + LOG | 360 MB | 3% Recovery | Complete Scans + Booklet
Genre: Classical | Release: 2007 | Label: Rca Victor Living Stereo | Catalog #: ADD708280

My colleague Christophe Huss at CTFrance.com put his finger right on the button when he described this performance as "Perhaps not the best finale, but just perfect everywhere else." It's true that Munch isn't quite as frenzied as, say, Toscanini, Bernstein (Sony), or the recent Davis (LSO) in the concluding "orgy of brigands", but this being Munch he's certainly exciting enough. And you won't hear a more exciting opening movement, a more atmospheric pilgrim's march, or a more delicious serenade. Certainly this is one of the two or three Harolds that no self-respecting Berlioz collection should be without.

Joe Morris Bass Quartet - High Definition (2007)
1 CD | EAC Rip | FLAC(TRACKS) + CUE + LOG | 343 MB | 3% Recovery | Complete Scans
Genre: Jazz | Release: 2007 | Label: Hatology

High Definition is a paradigm shift for Morris; this is his first session leading an ensemble as a bassist. Joined by longstanding drummer Luther Gray, Morris enjoys the steadfast support of a like-minded veteran. With the animated front-line of cornetist Taylor Ho Bynum and saxophonist Allan Chase, they offer a varied program of piano-less quartet traditions; vibrant West Coast styled arrangements and folksy Ornette-ish lyricism alternate with probing, experimental detours that border on Ayler-esque cacophony.

Miles Davis - Jack Johnson (1970) (Japanese Edition 2009)
1 CD | EAC Rip | FLAC(TRACKS) + CUE + LOG | 303 MB | 3% Recovery | Complete Scans
Genre: Jazz | Release: 2009 | Label: CBS/Sony | Catalog #: SOPC57110

This Album was originally conceived as the soundtrack for a documentary on the life of the first African American heavyweight boxing champion, but the album stands on its own as one of the most brilliant, compelling fusion recordings ever made. This is due in large part to the increasing influence of rock and funk on Miles\’s aesthetic, to the superb musicians (including Davis himself– who turns in some stunningly vigorous solos), and in part to the production skills of Teo Macero, who collaged the album together from numerous jam sessions into two lengthy, majestic tracks.

Andres Segovia - The Best of (2004)
1 CD | EAC Rip | FLAC(TRACKS) + CUE + LOG | 203 MB | 3% Recovery | No Scans
Genre: Classical | Release: 2004 | Label: Deutsche Grammophon | Catalog #: 375202

Andrés Segovia's vast repertoire cannot be encompassed, or even really suggested, on one 53-minute disc. But Universal's discount-priced 20th Century Masters/The Millennium Collection series has specialized successfully on boiling down the work of pop and some classical performers to an album with a list price upon release of only $11.98 (so that the retail price tends to come in at under $10), ideal for neophytes. Those initiates picking up the Segovia entry will receive at least an overview of the guitarist's work, starting with some of his Bach adaptations, going on to some of his Spanish standards, and concluding with the four-part Fantasia Para un Gentilhombre for Guitar and Small Orchestra, a 1954 work by fellow Spaniard Joaquín Rodrigo. There is much more to hear, of course, but these are reasonable examples to listen to in a first appreciation of Segovia.

Kenny Burrell - And The Jazz Giants (1998)
1 CD | EAC Rip | FLAC(TRACKS) + CUE + LOG | 407 MB | 3% Recovery | Full Covers (300 dpi)
Genre: Jazz | Release: 1998 | Label: Fantasy | Catalog #: 654314

Kenny Burrell's discography for the Fantasy label encompasses the middle ... Full Descriptionperiod of his career, and though well played, it leaves one wanting. His Blue Note material from his earlier days is better, and his interpretations of Duke Ellington's music from that era are definitive. There are only two Ellington numbers here, so this collection only scratches the surface. It's a credible compilation, good but not essential, even for starters.

Brad Mehldau - Introducing Brad Mehldau (1995)
1 CD | X Lossless Decoder | FLAC(TRACKS) + CUE + LOG | 354 MB | 3% Recovery | Complete Scans (300 dpi)
Genre: Jazz | Release: 1995 | Label: Warner Bros | Catalog #: 45997

When this young pianist burst onto the '90s jazz scene, he created quite a stir. Outside of free/avant-garde jazz, there hadn't been a piano player this strikingly distinctive for a long time. Mehldau's obvious forebears are people like Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett. Like them, he edges closer to the style of French impressionists such as Debussy than to any blues-based tradition.
