This performance was recorded live in Iowa in 1979, showcases Dexter Gordon's abundant musical talent in an intimate quartet setting with pianist George Cables, drummer Eddie Gladen and bassist Rufus Reid.

Though it would be anything else than a normal collaboration between artists, considering any one of the three musicians (being a normal character of jazz recordings/performances/outlined "gatherings" etc.), it's an event (or just as well a phenomenon) that speaks beyond words, it's interpreted above notes and means much ahead of impressions or symbols. Trumpeter Roy Hargrove has firmly established himself as one of this generation's premier players in jazz and beyond. Hargrove was born in Waco, TX on October 16, 1969. Inspired by the gospel music he heard in church on Sundays and the R&B and funk music that played on the radio, Roy began learning the trumpet in the fourth grade. By junior high school, he was playing at an advanced level of proficiency. At 16, he was studying music at Dallas's prestigious Booker T. Washington School for the Visual and Performing Arts.

A wonderful Jazz Version Of Pink Floyd's
'Dark Side of the Moon' by Sam Yahel, Ari Hoenig, Mike Moreno, Seamus Blake.

The plot is centered on a fish girl, or mermaid, who runs away from her home in the sea. She ends up stranded on the shore and is rescued by Ssuke, a five year old boy who lives on a cliff. After taking a great liking to her, Ssuke names her Ponyo and vows to protect her forever. Meanwhile, her father, Fujimoto, is looking for his daughter, upset that she ran away. He calls his wave spirits to return Ponyo to him. Ssuke is heartbroken by this, and goes home with his mother, Lisa (or "Risa" in some translations), who tries to cheer him up, but to no avail.

It may be surprising to learn that legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius had deep roots in the big band tradition. His father Jack was a big band singer and drummer in the late '40s and early '50s, and in Jaco's early twenties he played for five years with the Peter Graves Orchestra, a progressive big band located in Ft. Lauderdale. Graves' orchestra gave Pastorius valuable experience writing and arranging – and provided a supportive environment for his blossoming genius.

Then in 1975 Pastorius left the band and released his self-titled debut album, which propelled him into the spotlight. His subsequent work with Weather Report, Pat Metheny, and Joni Mitchell continued his phenomenal rise. He still gigged with Graves whenever he was in Florida, and when he left Weather Report in 1982 he formed his big band Word of Mouth, hiring Graves and other members of his orchestra...

Recorded live and unedited at New York's historic jazz venue, it documents the guitarist and a fiery quintet with over 120 minutes of exciting music, successfully articulating the electricity and essence that sets him apart. On this occasion, the group comprises bassist Joe Martin, pianist Aaron Goldberg, drummer Eric Harland, and Rosenwinkel's longtime associate, tenor saxophonist Mark Turner.
