Shpongle - Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost
EAC (Img.FLAC+LOG+Cue) | Total Time: 67:03 min | 486 Mb | + HQ Scans
Released: 2005 | Genre: Tribal, Psy-Trance, Abstract, Ambient | Label: Twisted Records | Catalog#: TWSCD28

Shpongle is back, with a new album, 'Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost' a reference to Terence Mckenna - one of their many influences, the imitable audio pioneers, Simon Posford and Raja Ram remind us not only the about the impermenance of life but also how to rewrite the ambient agenda with yet more spell binding music from their outer cosmos that is 'Shpongle'.
With sonic waves in a sea of synths, battalions of brazilian batucada beats, flamenco solo's, piano solo's, vocal soarings from Hari Om and trancey dubs this really is more music from the otherworld. A place of undefinable and indescribable beauty where all cultures collide, genres are rode over roughshot, and nothing is outlawed. For those that know them these will be sentiments they recognise and welcome as further evidence of Shongle's reputation.
To those that don't, welcome to a new universe one with it's own language and musical map, a place of beauty and impermenance.

Shpongle - Shpongle Remixed
EAC (Seperate FLAC+LOG+Cue) | Total Time: 51:50 min | 425 Mb | + Scans
Released: 2003 | Genre: Tribal, Psy-Trance, Abstract, Ambient | Label: Twisted Records | Catalog#: TWSCD23

Here is something I have been looking forward to for a very long time, the Shpongle remixed album from Twisted! Twisted Records never keeps their promises when it comes to release dates, but we always forgive them because they are the best… This album should have been released in 2002, but finally it’s here. After two fantastic Shpongle albums, they have decided to let some other artists play with their tracks. An album with eight Shpongle tracks, remixed by eight different groups.

Shpongle - Are You Shpongled
EAC (Seperate FLAC+LOG+Cue) | Total Time: 65:29 min | 447 Mb | + Scans
Released: 1998 | Genre: Tribal, Psy-Trance, Abstract, Ambient | Label: Twisted Records | Catalog#: TWSCD4

Shpongle, a word when you recommend to anyone or say, the typical first reaction is some odd face followed by, “What’s a Shpongle?” With this, this can also bring up the same reaction with one’s reaction to the music. The ramblings of some guy in Divine Moments of Truth, or the sudden breakdowns through scattered throughout the album. It’s an album of high and lows, of tension and release. Shpongle has mastered the art of their genre leaving many psychedelic bands in the dust with their complex rhythms, intense production, or the softness of Raja’s flute breaking over the top.

In the cozy concert hall of the EMI house in north of Paris, there is a piano. We put our best microphones there... and The affable Avishai Cohen get inside, meanders a bit on the keyboard, discover a bass that awaits him, and likes it! Avishai lays bare before our camera four pieces from his new album Aurora, doing arpeggios on the keys and plucking those bass strings.

Released: 2000 | Genre: Tribal, Psy-Trance, Abstract, Ambient | Label: Twisted Records | Catalog#: TWSC14

Here we've got the amazing Sphongle track in 3 different versions. Track 1 is the best IMO, and is know from many compilations but the other are pretty amazing too. #2 - the trance rmx is more melodic than the original but is not really that different. #3 - The Russian Bootleg version starts of with the sample only played backwards. I think!?. Has some chants and percussions too. This remix is actually quite different from the original, but is still very nice and is MUCH MORE ambient'y. At the end I don't know what the hell happens but the track turns into a strange carnival-like track with whistles and congas.

Avishai Cohen - Quintet and Friends, Salle Pleyel, Paris- ARTE Live
WebRip [Mp3+FLV] | Jazz, World, Etnic | Total Time: 02:09:03
Mp3 - Digital TV (unremastered) > CDR > mp3@320 | 2 CDs | 295 MB
FLV - Mpeg-4 Video (H.264) 720x400 25 fps | AAC 48000Hz stereo | 894 MB

The bassist and composer Avishai Cohen presents visionary jazz beyond genre boundaries. Having been with Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock on tour, he is now leader of a quintet and one of the most exciting musicians in contemporary jazz.
The double bass in the scene, although respected, creates yet only rare impressions in the golden books of jazz. but it have it's Olympus: masters like Charles Mingus and Dave Holland rose to Jazz back in the 50's, and Paul Chambers, Stanley Clarke, Ray Brown, Jimmy Garrison and Charlie Haden revolutionized the art of their genre.
Exceptional musician Avishai Cohen could finally bring the double bass on the front pages of Scene Magazine. The American monthly magazine 'bass Player' already has Avishai in its list of 100 influential bassists of the 20th Century included. In the new century is the Israeli instrumentalist, who also composed and even sings, still on everyone's lips. Thanks To Dave Sez for this Great gig!

Mr. Bungle - Disco Volante (1995)
EAC (Img.Ape+LOG+Cue) | Total Time: 68:45 min | 350 Mb
Genre: Alternative Metal / Funk Metal / Avant-garde | Label: Warner Bros | Catalog#: 9 26640-2

Disco Volante is, simply put, one of the best albums of the 90s. A friend of mine from college, who was much more into the "hard rock" scene than I was, came to visit me sometime in the mid-90s and played a tape of this album while we were driving somewhere, knowing that it would be right up my alley. It wasn't long before I had my own copy on CD.
Fortunately, when he "previewed" the album to me, he skipped the first track - a moronic heavy metal song about high school friends dying off. If that was the first track that I had heard, this review probably wouldn't exist. Fortunately, the rest of the album is nothing like that.

Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle (1991)
EAC (Img.Ape+LOG+Cue) | Total Time: 74:20 min | 429 Mb
Genre: Alternative Metal / Funk Metal / Avant-garde | Label: Warner Bros | Catalog#: 9 26640-2

So the band decides to open up the album with thirty seconds of silence before the sound of smashing glass breaks up the tension. Any band who is just off kilter enough to try something like that is obviously going to be making some left field music and believe me, Mr. Bungle did precisely that in 1991. As we all know, Mr. Bungle is the original band of vocalist Mike Patton, who was a bit better known - especially in 1991 - for fronting some band called Faith No More. Mr. Bungle had actually been around for a long, long time but it wasn't until 1991 that they finally got a full album together to unleash on an unsuspecting public.
Those expecting The Real Thing II were probably quivering in fear by this disc's end.

Zero 7 - Record [Special Edition-2CD]
Released: June 28, 2010 | EAC (Separate FLAC+LOG+Cue) + MP3 @ 320 kbps CBR | Total Time: 74:15 + 71:48 min | 930 Mb + 345 Mb
Genre: Trip-Hop / Electronic / Chill-Out / Downtempo | Label: Atlantic | Catalog#: 5186598462

On the day this record was reviewed, it was done in the completely wrong circumstances. Ideally, everything would have been perfect if the sun had been baking down whilst a group of people lounged around in the sun drinking warm alcohol and devouring a barbeque. Bless the ever trusty English weather to ruin that plan. Instead, it was time to crank up the volume on the stereo and turn on the heading to vaguely capture the summer vibe.
Certain music feels better in different situations. Zero 7 for example are perfect for lounging around to letting the world just get on with its thing. In terms of using them to soundtrack the busy hustle and bustle of a crowded city, they might not be the most suitable. But for hanging around to, nothing could be more in terms of pinpoint perfection.
Whilst this isn’t a brand new album, it’s an album that is crammed full of songs that basically scream, “we can make your grumpy mood disappear in seconds”. And why that particular comment? The collection of songs contains Zero 7’s trademark lounge style complete with a jazz-funk edge.

Aziza Mustafa Zadeh - Contrasts
Released: 2006 | EAC (Img.Ape+LOG+Cue) + MP3 @ 192 kbps CBR | + Scans | Total Time: 56:57 min | 241 Mb + 71 Mb
Genre: Fusion / Classical / Jazz / Mugam / | Label: Jazziza Records | Catalog#: JR 1969-1

Singing, playing. Still singing? “My hands and my voice are fighting like a married couple, they are jealous of each other". Says Aziza mustafa Zadeh. And sometimes she lets both meet each other forcefully. Dancing Bolero with passionate piano explosions and an unleashed powerful voice she then withdraws herself, aspirates elegiac-dramatic variations about Chopins last days on the piano. The jazzy “Night Life in Georgia" almost becomes a “Lush Life", the stars dance to it, Sheherezadeh dreams, of Jazz, too, she lets bees whir and from afar Eric Satie greets to the “Cloudy Evening". A painting, that is what Aziza Mustafa Zadeh wants to actually create. An enormous palette of colors, processing thousands of impressions and influences. Azerbaijan, Baku, Mainz, home, stage, studio, mugam, classical music jazz, painting, nature, people. The traditions, the past, the roots...

Yair Dalal With Al Ol Ensemble - The Perfume Road
Release: 2001 | Middle-Eastern Folk, World Fusion | Publisher: Magda Records | Catalog number: 1369
DBPowerAmp (Separate FLAC+AudioChecker.LOG) + MP3 @ 320 kbps | 69:55 min | 366 MB + 160 MB | RS

The perfume road was an ancient route that went from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean. It was used by wandering merchandisers riding along it on the backs of their camels, bringing the expensive spices and perfumes produced in the east to western civilizations. An ancient people, the Nabateans, were the sole rulers of this old route until the second century AD, when the Roman Empire took over this remote region and doomed the Nabateans to decay. Their successors, the Bedouins, keep the nomadic life style until the present day.
Yair Dalal was inspired by this old historical reality of free borders society that existed in the Middle East 2000 years ago.
By creating The Perfume Road he tries to remind us, using musical language, how different and free a reality such as this could be.
The ancient perfume road is revived here, on its colors, scents and sound.
