Monica Sex - Kisses and Wounds
Release: 1995 | Genre: Israeli Rock/Alternative | Publisher: NMC
EAC (Separate FLAC+LOG+CUE) | 304 MB | RS

The band was formed in 1993 in Tel Aviv, by Yahaly Sobol as vocalist and guitarist, Peter Rott as guitarist, Eldad Guetta on the organ, Yossi Hamami on bass, and Shachar Even-Tzur as drummer and vocalist. It was named after a famous female bass player, who performed some of their and Sobol's former band "Pag"'s songs.
Sobol, the leader and main artist of the group, wrote a few songs, and shortly the band began to record Wounds and Kisses. The album was released in 1995, but got little success. Yet, with their song Makka Aphora as the tittle songs of the cult series Florentin, the band became a new sensation. Since their soft rock and mainstream style, three more songs from the albums received massive airplay on the radio.

From the up tempo, almost danceable oud featured on Brown Sugar, to the scat influenced guitar on Ras, the tracks on Carving weave between instruments and moods, continuing to explore the boundaries of Jazz. Hoffman describes it as “a bunch of different parts that come together in a way that feels right to me. It's not always straight forward or easy to define, but that’s what makes life interesting”.

Marsh Dondurma - New Flavors (2007)
Release: 2007| Jazz, New Orleans, Funk, African, Balkan | Publisher: Self Produced
dbPowerAmp [no log] (Separate Flac+Audiochecker.LOG+Cue) | 454 MB | RS

Israeli Marsh Dondurma is a kind of New Orleans-ean/Balkan/fifteen-player jubilant marching band named after a favorite Turkish ice-cream. The combo adds Klezmer, Turkish and other Middle-Eastern and even Brazilian batucada-based spices to this percolating stew, all baked through an Ellingtonian framework. A much more sober version of Goran Bregovi''s Music for Weddings and Funerals (2002) or Emir Kusturica's No Smoking Orchestra, and certainly more disciplined than the Japanese Shibusashirazu Orchestra, but still delivering the sane joie de vivre. This second recording was released just after band returned from successful performances at the 2007 Montreal Jazz Festival.

Sam Barsh - I Forgot what you Taught me (2008)
MP3 @ 192 kbps CBR | 44100Hz | Joint Stereo | Total Time: 53:06 min | 74 Mb
Genre: Jazz / Blues | Label: Raz-Daz Records

Sam Barsh is one of those delightful free spirits, one who agrees to pose naked on the back cover of his debut CD save for a strategically placed melodica covering his butt. His music is cheeky as well, which seems to be dedicated to his rigid but well-meaning music teachers. A former member of the Avishai Cohen Trio, Barsh has created a quirky-but-endearing pop-jazz CD with many pleasing moments perfect Sunday morning with a cup of Joe. “Plans Change” and “This Is The Song” are simple and enjoyable, but the real fun begin with songs like “Wake Up and Smile”, Barsh's melodica answering Tim Collin's videos work.
Throw in some dub (“George Dub”), easy sway (“nuTrance”) and the mesmerizing loop of “Jew Hefner”, and you have one fine contemporary jazz CD, lean and so fun to listen to. Don't know if his jazz teachers would approve, but I Forgot What You Taught Me is a hell of a sweet listen. Holding down the bottom admirably are Ari Folman-Cohen on bass and Jaimeo Brown on drums...

Sevil - Vocal Instrumental Ensemble (V.Mustafazade)
Release: 1971| Mugam-Jazz, Fusion, Ethnic | Publisher: "ILKIN" Productions | Catalog number: ILKIN
EAC (Img.FLAC+LOG+Cue) + MP3 @ 320 kbps | 44100Hz | Joint Stereo | 184 MB + 87 MB | + Scans | RS

"People like Vagif are heroes," says Javanshir. "They struggled against their environs-against people who didn't understand them. They had to be so strong just to keep doing their own work and not betray their own artistic integrity."
"Censorship was everywhere. Music was not exempt. Anything that was not in conformity with the Soviet ideology was disapproved and banned. If, in the opinion of some high official, a work was not in tune with the Soviet ideology, the doors were slammed shut.
Alternatively, they would suggest that an artist create something that would glorify the Soviet system. They would openly say: 'If you do so-and-so, your job will be much easier.' So musicians and composers had to become very clever to accomplish their own personal goals."
Eybat Mammadbeyli, a member of the vocal group called "Sevil" that Vagif created to perform on TV, recalls such compromises. Vagif was severely restricted. "They didn't let us play jazz on TV so we played Vagif's pieces after work. Unfortunately, our audience was limited. Only after we resigned from the TV post were we able to spend our time performing concerts and were less restricted."
"It was only because of Vagif's determination that he continued with jazz..."
