CGTuts+ Texturing A Ground Fracture In 3D Studio Max | 516.8 MB
Author: Kevin Rakes | Released: Oct 7th 2011 | Software: 3D Studio Max, Rayfire
Difficulty: Intermediate | Completion Time: 1-2 hours (est.)

In this tutorial we will look at integrating a nice ground fracture into a live action shot. The entire process will cover how to project an image sequence from a selected camera onto geometry through a camera map per pixel material. We will also look at a way to ‘stick’ this material to our geometry with the help of ‘Render to Texture’. Towards the end I will briefly cover fracturing inside of Rayfire and how we can set up some Multi/Sub-object materials to create a nice varied texture.

In this series of lessons we will discuss a variety of ways that we can work efficiently between Mudbox and Maya. Mudbox and Maya are very complementary packages. Maya gives us the ability to build up our models, rig and animate them, and render them. But Mudbox allows us to use a much more artistic approach to shaping and sculpting our models. It also allows us to paint textures very quickly and with a lot of power. By leveraging these two applications together, we can really create a solid workflow. In this course we'll look at ways to get geometry and textures back and forth between Maya and Mudbox. We'll talk about new

Skinning 4 : Smooth Skin Influence Objects
Language: English | project files | .mov | 4.43GB
Genre: eLearning | Duration: 02:36:05

When anatomical accuracy is required, it is necessary to supplement joint weighting with auxillary tools. Joint weights determine what percentage of a rotational arc a vertex receives as joints rotate. In reality, however, where anatomical deformation is driven by muscle, tendons, fat and bones, any region of flesh surrounding a joint will not move on pure arcs. When rotating your own elbow or knee to their extreme positions, for example, the flesh on the inside of the arc compresses, bulges and slides, while the flesh on the outside of the arc is pushed outward by the protrusion of bone and cartilege. In this video we look at how Smooth Skin Influence Objects can be utilized to achieve these types of natural deformations using an intuitive and quick workflow.
