During the late '70s, Charlie Haden recorded all manner of duo sessions with musicians ranging from Ornette Coleman to Keith Jarrett, but one of the more unusual was this one with gypsy guitarist and Django Reinhardt devotee Christian Escoude.

Billie Holiday (Eleanora Fagan Gough, Philadelphia, April 7, 1915 – New York City, July 17, 1959) was an American jazz singer and songwriter. Nicknamed Lady Day by her loyal friend and musical partner Lester Young, Holiday was a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing.

“Passions of a Man” includes every album Mingus made during his first tenure at Atlantic Records. These recordings include “Pithecanthropus Erectus”, “The Clown”, “Blues and Roots”, “Mingus at Antibes”, “Oh Yeah” and “Tonight at Noon”, a compilation of 1957 and 1961 sessions making its first CD appearance. Of the 6 disc set, the last disc is a 75-minute interview with producer Nesuhi Ertegun.

There's nothing like a great accordion recording--really. There's something inherently romantic and charmingly evocative about the Italian (or French) style of music and performance on this instrument that in other hands and in other repertoire can be so, well, irritating.

Robben Ford originally put the band the Yellowjackets together to do his first solo album, called "The Inside Story", on Elektra Records. That band, in that form, did the record, but keyboard player Russell Ferrante was the only guy who was free to go on the road with Ford, so Russ and Ford continued to work together.

Before he hit it big with Time Out, Dave Brubeck found a niche market with the college crowd. The tweed coat and horn-rimmed glasses set were eager to soak in all that he had to offer, and Brubeck can take part of the credit for turning jazz into a more academic pursuit than it was previously held to be.

Although always greatly influenced by classical music, Brubeck and band make the connection overt on this 1961 orchestral record. Brubeck's lasting impact stems from his ability to effectively combine elements of classical and jazz into one coherent sound. However, in this case he attempts to offer jazz improvisations on top of classical arrangements.

An unofficial release of highlights of Led Zeppelin's classic shows at Knebworth in August 1979 - their last in the UK with the band's original line up. This recording was made on the first of the two weekends - August 4th.
