Foreigner 4 ~ DVD-Audio
Warner/Atlantic/Rhino 2001 | Original 1981

This was certainly Foreigners landmark album, where a move came about in 70's rock toward the melodic. Lou Gramm was at his best, his voice solid and energetic on staples like the pulsating "Jukebox Hero", the manic "Urgent" and the fluid romantic ballad "Waiting For a Girl Like You". The remainder of the bulk of the album consists of lesser known, but as good, songs including the coarse "I'm Gonna Win", the electric "Break It Up", rock anthem "Don't Let Go" and the light and floating feel of a "Girl on the Moon". Better than their debut album and immediately following "Head Games", this is viewed by many as their best work. Produced by Robert Lange and written by Mick Jones, with the group down to four members and a multitude of session musicians, "4" was released with perfect timing. It's a fine example of 80's rock and roll. If you like the band, this album is without doubt their best-known, and you will want to check out the surround remixes on this disc.

Emmylou Harris-Producers Cut ~ DVD-Audio
Warner Bros 2002 | Compilation

Rapidshare | Country Music
This disk may be watermarked.

Emmylou Harris: Producers Cut contains 14 songs taken from seven of Emmylou's first eight albums for Reprise Records, as well as a rare duet with Johnny Cash titled Old Rugged Cross. The tracks were chosen by Harris and producer Brian Ahern. According to DVD Talk reader and Emmylou fan Jim Mullany, these recordings represent some of her greatest career-making performances. "At the time she made these recordings," Mullany says, "she was married to Ahern, who had a significant career as a producer. Her band personnel evolved from great studio musicians who became part of her road band, the Hot Band, including Rodney Crowell (with whom she cowrote many of her best early songs) and Tony Brown (who went on to head MCA Nashville), Albert Lee (not the English Albert Lee) and Glen D. Hardin, Hank Devito, and Ricky Skaggs."

Chicago - Chicago II ~ DVD-Audio
Warner / Rhino 2003 | Original 1970 (2 LP)
Source: DVD-Audio | DVDFab7 ISO | ~ 6 Gb | Complete Scans
Rapidshare | Classic Rock | 16-Page Booklet

The Chicago Transit Authority recorded this double-barreled follow-up to their eponymously titled 1969 debut effort. The contents of Chicago II (1970) underscore the solid foundation of complex jazz changes with heavy electric rock & roll that the band so brazenly forged on the first set. The septet also continued its ability to blend the seemingly divergent musical styles into some of the best and most effective pop music of the era. The sound quality of the DVD-A is much improved, with better dynamics and resolution than you’ve ever heard. And the arrangement of the mix in 5.1 is tastefully done, with a few minor exceptions that aren’t glaring or distracting.

Tom Cochrane & Red Rider - Trapeze: The Collection ~ DVD-Audio
EMI Canada 2003 | Compilation (Original 2CD Set)

Rapidshare | Classic Rock
This disk may be watermarked.

Juno award winner Tom Cochrane, whether on his own or with Red Rider, has long been an underrated rocker-poet-folkie. He's produced lots of hits in Canada - No Regrets, I Wish You Well, White Hot, Lunatic Fringe and (of course) Life Is A Highway - and they're all here. It's the other tracks that should remind critics and casual fans alike that Cochrane is more than just a 1980s and '90s hitmaker. Check out Dreamer's Dream, Neruda and Ocean Blue to get a feel for how varied his sound can be. Much of that sound was created with guitarist/pedal steel whiz Kenny Greer, who split with Cochrane before the recording of the mega-selling Mad Mad World CD. Fortunately, Greer is back and you hear his influence all over the two new tracks on this collection - Just Like Ali, a tribute to his father and the famous boxer (both of whom have Parkinson's Disease, and all the proceeds from this track go to fight the ailment) and Pictures From The Edge. Much like fellow music-industry vet Steve Earle, Tom Cochrane plays heartfelt, roots-based music with a conscience. Trapeze is a well-balanced and complete document of Tom Cochrane’s consistently entertaining and varied musical career.

This is a DVD-Audio, remastered, with Advanced Resolution DVD-A Surround Sound, DVD-A Stereo, Dolby Digital Surround Sound. Advanced resolution requires DVD-Audio players, remainder plays on all DVD players.

Yes - Fragile ~ DVD-Audio
Elektra / Rhino 2002 | Original 1972
Source: DVD-Audio | DVDFab7 ISO | ~ 5 Gb | Complete Scans
MU & RS | Classic Rock | Bonus tracks
This disk may be watermarked.

Fragile is Yes' breakthrough album, dominated by science-fiction and fantasy elements, and new member Rick Wakeman, whose organ, synthesizers, Mellotrons, and other keyboard exotica added a larger-than-life element to the proceedings. Ironically, the album was a patchwork job, hastily assembled in order to cover the cost of Wakeman's array of instruments. But the group built effectively on the groundwork left by The Yes Album, and the group had an AM-radio sucker-punch, aimed at all of those other progressive bands who eschewed the notion of hit singles, in the form of "Roundabout," the edited version (sort of "highlights" of the album version) pulled in millions of young kids who'd never heard them before. The single clicked, most album-buyers liked the long version and all the rest of what they found, and the band was made. The DVD Audio version includes the bonus track "America," and features both 5.1 surround sound and digital Dolby mixes.

Frampton Comes Alive! is a double live album by Peter Frampton released in 1976, and one of the best-selling live albums in the United States. Following four solo albums with little commercial success, Frampton Comes Alive! was a breakthrough for the artist. Released on January 6, 1976, it debuted on the charts at 191. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200 the week ending April 10, 1976, and was in the top spot for a total of 10 weeks. It was the best-selling album of 1976, selling over 6 million copies in the U.S. and became one of the best-selling live albums to date. Frampton Comes Alive! was voted "Album of the year" in the 1976 Rolling Stone readers poll. It stayed on the chart for 97 weeks and was still #14 on Billboard's 1977 year-end album chart. The most recognizable songs from the album are "Show Me the Way", "Baby, I Love Your Way", and "Do You Feel Like We Do", all of which were released as singles, and continue to receive much airplay on classic rock radio stations.

Diana Krall - The Look Of Love ~ DVD-Audio
Verve 2003 | Original 2001
Source: DVD-Audio | DVDFab7 ISO | ~ 5 Gb
Rapidshare | Jazz | Complete Scans
This disk may be watermarked.

After winning a Best Jazz Vocal Performance Grammy for 1999's platinum-selling When I Look In Your Eyes, Diana Krall delivers her best album yet -- a lush, cinematic collection of ballads and bossa nova tunes. The Look Of Love brings to mind such classic Frank Sinatra albums as In The Wee Small Hours and Only The Lonely. But the elegant piano solos, the sensual vocals and the wickedly-modern sense of humor are, inimitably, all Krall. This is without doubt one of the finest examples of multi-channel music available and is arguably among the best that DVD-Audio has to offer. Diana's vocals are extremely rich and detailed with every nuance in her voice coming through with amazing clarity. In reference to the 5.1 track, the vocals are predominantly mixed in the left and right channels with a little fill in the centre channel. The surround presence in the MLP 5.1 track is truly exemplary - this is truly the very definition of surround sound.

The Band - The Last Waltz ~ DVD-Audio
WB/Rhino 2002 | Original 1978

Rapidshare | Classic Rock
This disk may be watermarked.

The Band makes its debut on DVD audio with this release, which is worth owning even if you like the four-CD box from Rhino. Condensed down from the box and featuring a six-channel surround-sound mix prepared by Robbie Robertson as well as Dolby digital stereo, it's a separate entity unto itself, with characteristics that separate it from the Rhino box and the Warner Bros. DVD release of the film. Actually, the Last Waltz DVD audio is a 30-track monster on playback, with the instruments given an up-close-and-personal presence that was scarcely hinted at on the old double CD or the original triple album, and can't be replicated on the simple 16-bit stereo playback of the CD box.

Diana Krall - Love Scenes
GRP DTS 5.1 Surround Sound 1998
Source: Retail DTS CD | EAC Wav | Log & Cue | Complete Scans
Rapidshare | Jazz | 20-Page Booklet | ~550Mb
For DTS 5.1 Capable Sound Systems!

On LOVE SCENES, Diana Krall utilizes the same trio format she used on her critically acclaimed ALL FOR YOU. And it's easy to understand why: the simple instrumentation--Krall plus guitarist Russell Malone and bassist Chrisian McBride--is the perfect setting for her sultry voice and relaxed piano playing. She offers 12 delightful interpretations of well-chosen, romance-related standards. The three musicians have a wonderful rapport (both Malone and McBride have played on previous Krall albums), and each tune exhibits an easy, effortless swing. Krall' s piano playing is sensitive and lyrical on the ballads, and right in the groove on the uptempo numbers. Malone's full, rich tone blends perfectly with Krall's piano accompaniment, and McBride's formidable bass playing punctuates the trio's every nuance on this drumless date. This new version of "Love Scenes" offers 20-bit DTS 5.1 Digital Surround remix of Krall's first gold record.

This high-resolution, multichannel audio soundtrack allows an already great album to realize its full potential. Running on Empty was a bold experiment: This album that chronicles life on the road was recorded on the road—on stage, in hotel rooms, and even on the tour bus—during Browne's 1977 concert tour. The lyrics paint an immensely intimate portrait of the lifestyle, for better and for worse, and the musicianship is outstanding, especially considering the circumstances under which the songs were recorded. The wonderful fidelity of the high-resolution audio, mixed from the original multitracks, gives a rich immediacy to the music and vocals, while the multichannel soundtrack shifts deftly between a concert perspective and a more enveloping style that puts you in the middle of the action, as if you were on the journey and in the room as those incredible jam sessions took place.

Rapidshare | Classic Rock | 372 Mb
For DTS 5.1 Capable Sound Systems!

Tutored at a young age by no less than guitar whiz Les Paul and blues legend T-Bone Walker, Steve Miller's life seemed destined to be dominated by music. Still, Miller's evolution from 1960s white-boy Chicago blues journeyman to '70s Top 40 hit machine was meteoric. Building on the success of his mainstream breakthrough The Joker, Miller's mastery of the indelibly catchy pop song yielded not only the radio-staple title track (since successfully revived by Seal), but an almost embarrassing wealth of other deceptively simple, hook-laden songs (including the standout "Wild Mountain Honey" as well as the hit singles "Take the Money and Run" and "Rock'n Me") to make Eagle play more like a greatest hits album than a standard collection of songs. This is Miller at his '76 pop-perfectionist peak, and one of the decade's most enduring surprises.

Solid, working man's rock from the mid-1970's. Besides the hit "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet", this album is packed with gems like "Roll on Down the Highway", "Rock is My Life", "Blue Moanin'" and "Second Hand". For those not familiar with this foursome's garage band-style guitar attack (nothin' too fancy, now) they have a distinctly American sound: not as country as CCR, not as polished as the Doobie Brothers, not as bluesy as the Allman Brothers, but bristling with raw, chomping guitar power.
