“La Chance De Ma Vie aka "Second Chance," or "The Chance of My Life" using a literal translation, is a French romcom. While I enjoy a good romantic comedy, in my experience most of the French ones get too tangled up with family drama and degenerate into boring repetition that wasn't funny the first time. Hollywood is equally guilty of this and serves it with a side of bad storytelling to boot. In that regard this movie is refreshing as it focuses on a single theme between the to-be couple and does an effective job playing it for laughs. In short, Julien brings good luck to his girlfriends after they finally dump him, usually during her stay in a hospital. While he is with them, their lives are nothing but disastrous. Then he meets Joanna (Virginie Efira), a beautiful, sexy designer whose dream is to design a car. So this is the story of Julien and Joanna and how bad luck gets transformed into opportunity.
