Dizzy Gillespie's many collaborations with producer Norman Granz resulted in an impressive body of work that forms the basis for Verve Jazz Masters 10, a grab bag of bop, big band, and mainstream modern jazz recordings made between the years 1950 and 1963. The impressively packed roster of participants includes Roy Eldridge, Charlie Parker, and Sonny Stitt. In a sensible and very effective maneuver, the collection opens with the famous "Manteca" performed by Gillespie's big band at the Newport Jazz Festival. This single seven-minute performance will tell you everything you need to know about Dizzy Gillespie. Every aspect of his musical persona appeared to the people during that exciting open-air Afro-Cuban jam. It is hoped that exposure to this Roman candle version of "Manteca" and the rest of the excellent music on this CD will encourage listeners to pursue the rest of Gillespie's amazing recorded legacy. Blue Note's "So Blue, So Funky" is a 12-track compilation that highlights the funkiest soul-jazz organists that recorded for the label, whether it was a leader or as a sideman. Although there's a handful of cuts from the early '60s, such as "Face to Face" by the terrific, underrated "Baby Face" Willette, the compilation leans toward the funky fusions of the late '60s, such as "Big" John Patton's "Fat Judy", Lou Donaldson's "Everything I Do Is Gon' Be Funky (From Now On)", Jack McDuff's "Butter (For Yo' Popcorn)" and Grant Green's "Ain't It Funky Now". The best thing about this comp is that even though it has familiar names, not all of the material is readily available on CD, which makes it of interest to casual groove fans and serious collectors alike.

The "Blade Runner 20th Anniversary Edition", out in 2002 and most likely not by the same person responsible for the original "Blade Runner Off World Edition" as stated on the CD, was a mixture of the "Off World Edition" bootleg and the official 1994 edition of the soundtrack without taking into account the huge difference in quality between the sources. On The 29th Anniversary all that could be done was done to even out the differences even if the makers would not count on "near perfect" quality for this 29th Anniversary version.
