Separation Road is Swedish singer-songwriter Anna Ternheim's second album, released on September 27, 2006

2009 is Anna Ternheim’s year. Not only did she walk away from January’s Swedish Grammis with the award for Best Female Artist, but her domestically released album Leaving on a Mayday also scooped Album of the Year. Ternheim began writing songs at the tender age of ten, a process that was emboldened a year or two later when she learnt to play the guitar. Four albums and an armful of awards later, Anna has developed into an artist truly worth paying attention to. Her music is elegantly genre-defying, although it would be fair to say she draws predominantly from the pop and folk pantheons, with an emphasis on melancholy introspection. "I suddenly felt like I really needed to make a record in the style of Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot. Not that it had to sound like that, but it had to be a guy-and-girl conceptual thing. So then I asked myself, 'Who's Brigitte Bardot today? It's Scarlett Johansson.'

"Pete told me that he'd had a dream that we recorded an album together," she recalls, "and with that momentum, he had written eight songs that he'd wanted to record pretty low-key. One of several excellent hard bop pianists from the Memphis area, Harold Mabern has led relatively few dates through the years, but he has always been respected by his contemporaries. He played in Chicago with MJT + 3 in the late '50s and then moved to New York in 1959. Mabern worked with Jimmy Forrest, Lionel Hampton, the Jazztet (1961-1962), Donald Byrd, Miles Davis (1963), J.J. Johnson (1963-1965), Sonny Rollins, Freddie Hubbard, Wes Montgomery, Joe Williams (1966-1967), and Sarah Vaughan. During 1968-1970, Mabern led four albums for Prestige, he was with Lee Morgan in the early '70s, and in 1972, he recorded with Stanley Cowell's Piano Choir. Harold Mabern has recorded as a leader for DIW/Columbia and Sackville and toured with the Contemporary Piano Ensemble (1993-1995).
