Humble Pie - The Life And Times Of Steve Marriott (2000)
DVD9 | VIDEO_TS | MPEG-2 Video, NTSC 4:3 (720:480), 30.00fps, 7550kbps | DD 5.1, 448kbps | 67 min | 6700Mb
rock | Pioneer Artists | HQ cover

"The Life and Times of Steve Marriott" is a compelling documentary about one of rock's most dynamic, exciting, and sadly; unsung heroes of rock and roll. Showcasing revelatory interviews with Humble Pie's Peter Frampton, Jerry Shirley, and Greg Ridley, the Black Crowes's Chris Robinson, Rick Nielsen and Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, John Waite, Bad Company/Free drummer Simon Kirke, Quiet Riot's Kevin Dubrow, Ricky Byrd and Marriott historian John Heller among others, the documentary vividly tells the tale of Steve's tragically short life via the use of previously unseen photos, memorabilia, and home movies. Rare fiery performance footage of The Small Faces and Humble Pie frames the action, drawing the viewer closer to this wonderful and underrated artist.

Spooky Tooth - Ceremony (1969) [SHM CD]
rock | 1cd | Eac Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | HQ covers
Island UICY-20034 | 325Mb

This is unlike any other release by an English band normally rooted in the blues. Think of it as Spooky Tooth's version of Concerto for Group and Orchestra by Deep Purple. After two or three promising blues-based rock releases, one member of the band somehow convinces the others to go for a wildly ambitious, experimental concept album. Jon Lord persuaded Deep Purple to dive into the deep end, and Gary Wright got Spooky Tooth to welcome Frenchman Pierre Henry for this electronic mass. Wright left the band after Ceremony and Lord never had the same influence on Purple again as Ritchie Blackmore led them to heavy metal glory.

Jack Bruce & Friends - Live At Bottom Line (1980)
rock | 1cd | Eac Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | HQ covers
Traditional Line | 330Mb

Although some may be tempted to call multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and composer Jack Bruce a rock & roll musician, blues and jazz are what this innovative musician really loves. As a result, these two genres are at the base of most of the recorded output from a career that goes back to the beginning of London's blues scene in 1962. In that year, he joined Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated. Throughout the following decades and into the 21st century, Bruce has always been a supreme innovator, pushing himself into uncharted waters with his jazz and folk-rock compositions.

For fans of Chris Squire this DVD is essential, having his stamp all over it. You can very easily recognize his distinctive bass guitar sound and also his distinctive backing vocals. This DVD features a very intimate performance by The Syn, Squire's pre-Yes band which also features another Yes-man - Alan White - on drums. The Syndestructible album is performed here in its entirety as well as some songs from the mid- 60's that were only released as singles back then. The new material sounds not modern, but also not 60's, it sounds timeless really!

Cuby + Blizzards - Afscheidsconcert (1974)
blues | 1cd | Eac Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | back & front covers
Varagram | 310Mb

Although unknown to the English-speaking market, Cuby & the Blizzards have been one of Holland's top blues bands since the mid-'60s. Some of their early singles had a beat/punk orientation, particularly "Stumble & Fall" and "Your Body Not Your Soul," both of which would be reissued on various Dutch beat compilations a few decades later.

During the 1960s and '70s, San Francisco's Winterland Arena was home to some of the era's most memorable rock concerts, hosting such musical legends as Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, and The Who. When the world-famous venue closed its doors in 1978, rock promoter Bill Graham commemorated the event by organizing one last farewell concert--and he chose his favorite band the Grateful Dead to bring the party to a rockin' close. This special 2-disc collection marks the 25th anniversary of the legendary concert, recorded on New Year's Eve 1978 and featuring guest appearances by Graham, John Cipollina, Lee Oskar, Matt Kelly, Ken Kesey, Greg Errico, and John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as the Blues Brothers.

Robert Berry - The Dividing Line (2008)
rock | 1cd | Eac Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | HQ covers
Frontiers | 395Mb

The multi-instrumentalist, Robert Berry, has released a new solo album. If this name doesn’t ring a bell yet, then let me refresh your memory. His noticeable debut album was released in 1978 with the band Hush. After three more albums and his first solo album, he was taken on by Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer. He was given the impossible task of replacing Greg Lake. They pieced together an over produced, typical 80s style album, “To the Power of Three”, under the band name of 3. After a few more solo albums, he is now back with Alan Fitzgerald (Night Ranger) and a few musicians of Sammy Hagar forming the band Alliance.

They came from Holland in the mid 1960's and continue to forge forward as one of the best European blues bands ever. For a short time after Van Morrison left Them, Cuby + The Blizzards served as his backing band. This performance was recorded in South Africa in 2002. Includes an extra feature in the 24 minute featurette "Another Day, Another Road" a report on the South African tour.

Spooky Tooth - Live in Europe (1966 & 99)
rock | 1cd | Eac Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | covers
Blue Storm | 290Mb

One of the more intriguing components of the blues-rock movement was Spooky Tooth. They differed from other bands in that they utilized two very distinctive, talented vocalists (Mike Harrison and Gary Wright) and they featured an ominous yet potent organ sound.
By 1968, they had broken through commercially in England and were on the verge of releasing their most popular material. It was at this time that they performed on several editions of BBC’s radio program Top Gear.

Greg Lake - Live (2005)
DVD9 + DVD5 | VIDEO_TS | MPEG-2 Video, NTFS 16:9 (720:480), 59.00fps, 7817kbps | DD 5.1, 448kbps; DTS 5.1, 768kbps | 105 + 75 min | 6300 + 4300Mb
rock | Warner | HQ covers

DVD-1 opens with The Court Of The Crimson King, it sounds fine but I miss a little bit the warm atmosphere of the original version. Listening to the rest of the DVD-1, I conclude that this is the only negative remark, what a great band, what a sensational duo-keyboard work, what a powerful rhythm-section and what a 'killer-guitarplayer', he lifts almost every track to a very high level! The tracks often sound bombastic featuring spectaculair work on keyboards like in Fanfare For The Common Man, Lucky Man (great fat sound during the legendary solo) and especially the epic Pictures At An Exhibition that contains many captivating and surprising musical ideas and exciting soli. Greg Lake also delivers delicate work on acoustic guitar, this is a good contrast with the often bombastic prog.

Steve Hackett - Hungarian Horizons: Live in Budapest (2002) [Japan LP Sleeve]
rock | 2cd | Eac Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | HQ covers
Camino/Universal UICE-9011 | 585Mb

This was a unique live album and definitly has songs that will make fans happy. However, I caution everyone but the most open minded fans, as these classical acoustic reinturpretations will probally sit better with the smooth jazz listener then your typical Steve Hackett buff..As good as some of the songs are-perfectly formed and fitted for their stripped down acoustic presentations, right along with his brother on flute, many tracks feel a little too subdued and sublime for their own good. Selections range from various solo work, to classical re-inturpretations to Genesis themes..

Spooky Tooth - It's All About (1968)
rock | 1cd | Eac Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | HQ covers
Repertoire 2005 | 510Mb

This full-length debut from British blues-rockers Spooky Tooth has a tone similar to Traffic with its psychedelic take on the influential pop and soul music of the '60s. A few cover tunes including Janis Ian's "Society's Child" and the Nashville Teens' "Tobacco Road" are included, but original songs like the soulful ballad "It Hurts You So" and "Bubbles" (with its Beach Boys sensibility) are the real standouts. The cheery, psychedelic "It's All About a Roundabout" is the catchiest number by far.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Christmas Time Again (2000)
rock | 1cd | Eac Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | HQ covers
SPV 085-71022 | 290Mb

A Southern rock Christmas album? Hey, it makes as much sense as Run-DMC's "Christmas in Hollis," and the good news is that the Lynyrd Skynyrd boys--along with special guests the Charlie Daniels Band and .38 Special--truly get into the spirit with a nice mix of seasonal standards (rock and otherwise) and originals. Among the latter, the Daniels Band provides a frankly terrifying "Devil Went Down to Georgia"-derived take on "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," while Skynyrd crunch through Chuck Berry's "Run, Rudolph Run" with Stones-like aplomb.
