James R. Taylor, Elizabeth J. Van Every, "The Emergent Organization: Communication As Its Site and Surface (Lea's Communication Series)"
Publisher: Lawrence Erlbaum | 1999-11-01 | ISBN 0805821937 | PDF | 368 pages | 1 MB

Today's organizations face a wide variety of challenges, including such contradictions as maintaining unity of action while becoming increasingly diverse. Even the definition of organization is changing and evolving. In this monograph, the authors apply their academic and professional experience to address the notion of "organization," setting forth communication as the essential modality for the constitution of organization--explaining how an organization can at the same time be both local and global, and how these properties which give organization continuity over time and across geographically dispersed situations also come to be manifested in the day-to-day of human interpersonal exchange.

Government and the Enterprise since 1900: The Changing Problem of Efficiency
Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA | 1994-06-02 | ISBN 0198287496 | PDF | 472 pages | 5 MB

Surveying governmental industrial policy in Britain, James Tomlinson explores the perennial concern of government to improve the efficiency and the competitiveness of British industry. Organized chronologically, the book focuses on the formation of policy-making and policy implementation, according to the ideas and beliefs that have dominated this century. Thus, industrial policy is traced through wars and recessions, the building of the welfare state and times of growth, and through stagflation, economic liberalism, and deindustrialization. The constant theme is the attempt by all governments to achieve the objectives of high growth, low unemployment, and international competitiveness. Tomlinson reveals both the macroeconomic context of industrial policy, and microeconomic effects of these policies. The focus of the book is on British industry, although in many cases Tomlinson uses a comparative perspective to set British policy in the world context.

"Career Wisdom for College Students: Insights You Won't Get in Class, on the Internet, or from Your Parents"
Publisher : Ferguson Publishing Company | ISBN : 0816068372 | 2007-03-30 | Pages : 272 | PDF | 1.93 MB

"Career Wisdom for College Students" is a career advice book for those who need it most - college students facing monumental decisions about their future but who may not have all the information they need. Offering insights readers won't get in class, on the Internet, or from their parents, expert author Peter Vogt guides college students through the process of career preparation. While many books exist to aid the first-time jobs seeker or the recent college graduate, few offer help during the formative time when a major is chosen, an initial career path is charted, and internship and work experience opportunities abound. Filling this niche, this practical book consists of more than 60 advice articles separated into four major sections: "Take A Look Around - A Real Look Around," "Be Careful What You Think You Know," "Build Your Skills and Experience Through Hands-on Activities," and "Land the Job You Really Want." An epilogue offers advice on getting the most out of the campus career counselor, and an appendix suggests helpful resources for further research or career exploration.

Business Ethics as Practice: Ethics as the Everyday Business of Business (Business, Value Creation, and Society)
Publisher : Cambridge University Press | ISBN : 0521877458 | 2009-01-31 | Pages : 320 | PDF | 1.15 MB

In recent years, a succession of corporate scandals has rocked the international business community. As a result, many companies have invested considerable time, money and effort on the development of ethics management programs. However, in many cases, such programs are nothing more than insurance policies against corporate liability, designed merely to limit the fallout of scandals should they occur. In Business Ethics as Practice, Mollie Painter-Morland urges us to take business ethics seriously by reconsidering the role of ethics management within organizations. She redefines the typical seven-step ethics management program from within - challenging the reader to reconsider what is possible within each aspect of this process.

"Strategic Innovation: Embedding Innovation as a Core Competency in Your Organization"
Publisher : Jossey-Bass | ISBN : 0787964050 | 2003-06-30 | Pages : 240 | PDF | 1.39 MB

Strategic Innovation offers a flexible, customizable template that managers, executives, and business leaders can use to introduce an effective innovation strategy throughout their organization. The authors, Nancy Tennant Snyder and Deborah L. Duarte, provide the tools needed to craft a workable strategy for embedding innovation as a core competency across an enterprise. Instead of innovation for innovation's sake, the authors offer a proven business-focused way to change a culture from point-in-time innovations from a few to a continuous pipeline of innovations from everywhere and everyone.

Based on the real-life example of Whirlpool a solid company with a significant track record and global reach—Strategic Innovation shows how the world's largest appliance company put innovation in place as a core competency. During this process, Whirlpool transformed itself from a quality producer of appliances to a customer-focused company that strategically embeds innovation throughout the organization.

Producing for the Web (Media Skills)
Publisher : Routledge | ISBN : 0415231140 | 2000-09-15 | Pages : 158 | PDF | 1.07 MB

So far, this is the only producing/project management book
that I recommend to other aspiring and wannabe website producers/project managers. I've produced for the web since 1997 and even served as a production manager for a, now defunct, dotcom. I hadn't read one worthwhile book that accurately chronicled the producer/pm role in web development
until this book. It wastes no time getting to the point of the various relationships among producers, designers, developers, etc. and, unlike other books, isn't plagued by introspectives from the author on his theory of WHATEVER YOU DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT. If you are looking for a book that will let you learn in a hurry; this is the book.

"Do Organizations Have Feelings?"
Publisher : Routledge | ISBN : 0415115469 | 1997-09-29 | Pages : 184 | PDF | 1.55 MB

IDo Organizations Have Feelings? argues that any adequate organizational narrative for today must transcend the emotion/rationality divide and challenges the manager, the consultant and the business schools to take sociology seriously. The papers in this important collection were written over a period of thirty years by one of the leading world authorities on the sociology of organizations. Now presented together for the first time with an extended commentary and discussion by the author and followed by two specially written chapters bringing the story right up to date, they chart the development of the study of organizations during a period of epochal change from the modern to the global age. This book will be essential reading for anyone concerned with the way in which the interplay between organizations and society in all its aspects shapes our world today.

The Macroeconomics of Capital Structure (Foundations of the Market Economy Series,)
Publisher : Routledge | ISBN : 0415079829 | 2000-11-30 | Pages : 288 | PDF | 3.33 MB

Austrian economics are often rejected by mainstream economists because they do not use mathematics and graphical analysis. Therefore, some great insights and ideas of authors such as von Mises, Hayek and Rothbard are neglected.

Yet some austrian ideas can easily be paralleled with mainstream theories. For instance, the role of monetary inflation in monetarist macroeconomics, the role of expectations, and the difference between short term and long term Philips curve. All of these are coherent with the austrian theory. But austrian theory has a distinct approach when it discusses the role of inflation in terms of distortions of the structure of production. This leads to a new vision of recessions, as a necessary evil to cure the malinvestments of the boom.
