A First Lab in Circuits and Electronics
Publisher: Wiley | ISBN: 0471386952 | edition 2001 | PDF | 139 pages | 12,5 mb

Yannis Tsividis gives us a great beginners book into electronics. I found the instruction very concise and though it seems basic to the casual eye, is extremely helpful in learning from the beginning...where anyone should start, right? I learned about nor gates which was extremely fun and interesting, including trying to create my own schematic of a closed circuit relay. Once you can master the basics you are ready to go on to more advanced electronics, which can include building your very own radio! The diagrams and overall instruction in this book are layed out easy to understand. I have a vast background in Geology but want to further my horizons by learning other fields, and with looking into electronics I found this book to be a good starting point.

Make and Test Projects in Engineering Design: Creativity, Engagement and Learning
Publisher: Springer | ISBN: 1852339152 | edition 2005 | PDF | 300 pages | 16,2 mb

Make and test projects are used as introductory design experiences in almost every engineering educational institution world wide.
However, the educational benefits and costs associated with these projects have been seldom examined. Make and Test Projects in Engineering Design provides a serious examination of the design of make and test projects and their associated educational values. A taxonomy is provided for the design of make and test projects as well as a catalogue of technical information about unconventional engineering materials and energy sources. Case studies are included based on the author?s experience of supervising make and test projects for over twenty-five years.
The book is aimed at the engineering educator and all those planning and conducting make and test projects. Up until now, this has been topic dealt with informally. Make and Test Projects in Engineering Design is the first book that formalises this important aspect of early learning in engineering design and will be an invaluable teaching tool and resourse for educators in engineering design.

Modeling Maximum Trading Profits with C++: New Trading and Money Management Concepts
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons | ISBN: 0470086238 | edition 2007 | PDF | 267 pages | 11 mb

The goal of trading is to make money, and for many, profits are the best way to measure that success. Author Valerii Salov knows how to calculate potential profit, and in Modeling Maximum Trading Profits with C++, he outlines an original and thought-provoking approach to trading that will help you do the same.
This detailed guide will show you how to effectively calculate the potential profit in a market under conditions of variable transaction costs, and provide you with the tools needed to compute those values from real prices. You'll be introduced to new notions of s-function, s-matrix, s-interval, and polarities of s-intervals, and discover how they can be used to build the r- and l-algorithms as well as the first and second profit and loss reserve algorithms. Optimal money management techniques are also illustrated throughout the book, so you can make the most informed trading decisions possible. Filled with in-depth insight and expert advice, Modeling Maximum Trading Profits with C++ contains a comprehensive overview of trading, money management, and C++.

Exceptional C++: 47 Engineering Puzzles, Programming Problems, and Solutions
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional | ISBN: 0201615622 | edition 1999 | PDF | 288 pages | 10,6 mb

Aimed at the experienced C++ programmer, Herb Sutter's Exceptional C++ tests the reader's knowledge of advanced C++ language features and idioms with several dozen programming puzzles and explanations. This book can definitely help raise your C++ class design skills to the next level.
Based on the author's Guru of the Week Web column, this book poses a series of challenging questions on the inner workings of C++, centering around generic programming with the Standard Template Library (STL), exception handling, memory management, and class design. Even if you think you know C++ well, most of these problems will teach you something more about the language and how to write more robust classes that are "exception safe" (meaning they don't throw any handled exceptions or leak resources). Don't think this is just "language lawyering," though. The author's explanations stress sound programming principles (favoring simplicity) and idioms (such as the Pimpl idiom for class design that promotes faster compile times and better maintainability, or using "smart" auto_ptrs with STL.) Judging from the range and depth of these examples, Sutter's command of the inner workings of C++ is impressive, and he does an excellent job of conveying this expertise without jargon or a lot of theory.

The Conquistador: 1492-1550
Publisher: Osprey Publishing | ISBN: 1841761753 | edition 2001 | PDF | 66 pages | 27,3 mb

Many accounts portray the conquest of the New World as a remarkable military achievement, with Cortés' vastly outnumbered but better armed Spaniards defeating hordes of superstitious savages. However, the reality of these events is far more complex and no less significant. The first Conquistadors who had sailed in search of prosperity, inspired by dreams of unlimited riches, soon became disillusioned and restless. With disease rampant, resources exhausted, and the Caribbean populations dwindling, they had little alternative but to find new territories and peoples to exploit. This title shows how, bolstered by influxes of war-hardened veterans from Europe and an army of over 30,000 allied Indian troops, they came to rely on and perfect what they knew best - killing for profit, and without mercy.

Upon What Does the Turtle Stand?
Publisher: Springer | ISBN: 1402027982 | edition 2004 | PDF | 273 pages | 12,2 mb

The societal changes engendered by the rapid technological advances of the past century underline more than ever the crucial need to reflect on the future of our educational systems. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have completely modified our living, working, spending and leisure patterns, but do they also offer the very opportunity that we, as citizens, parents, teachers and politicians, have been seeking to ensure that children all over the world have access to an education that will enable them to become masters of their own lives? "Upon What Does the Turtle Stand?" attempts to answer this question by: examining the social aims underlying ICT integration in education; providing readers with a broad overview of the subject; underlining similarities and differences, points of accord and of conflict in implementation strategies and approaches; presenting the issue from the standpoint of highly experienced experts in the field; enabling readers to perceive more clearly the fundamental aims and values upon which "The Turtle Stands". This publication offers a wealth of information to researchers, academics, university lecturers, students, teacher trainers and trainees, educationalists and policy makers in their quest to define the rightful role of ICT in education.

Color Space and Its Divisions: Color Order from Antiquity to the Present
Publisher: Wiley-Interscience | ISBN: 0471326704| edition 2003 | PDF | 435 pages | 13,4 mb

It has been postulated that humans can differentiate between millions of gradations in color. Not surprisingly, no completely adequate, detailed catalog of colors has yet been devised, however the quest to understand, record, and depict color is as old as the quest to understand the fundamentals of the physical world and the nature of human consciousness. Rolf Kuehni’s Color Space and Its Divisions: Color Order from Antiquity to the Present represents an ambitious and unprecedented history
* A historical account of color order systems
* Fundamentals of psychophysics and the relationship between stimuli and experience
* Results of perceptual scaling of colors according to attributes
* History of the development of mathematical color space and difference formulas
* Analysis of the agreements and discrepancies in psychophysical data describing color differences
* An experimental plan for the reliable, replicated perceptual data necessary to make progress in the field
