Dom Um Romao was a Brazilian percussionist (analogous to Airto Moreira) who played with Weather Report, Sergio Mendes, and other well-known Latin, jazz, and fusion artists. The two albums collected on this CD were his first, both recorded in 1972. The sound could be described as the Brazilian version of the nuyorican aesthetic – cold electronics coexist with jazz improvisation and Brazilian roots textures and melodies. Most of this music consists of memorable, sometimes strange melodies and, of course, plenty rhythm.

Karunesh ("compassion for all sentient beings" in Sanskrit) started life in Colonge 1956, Germany as Bruno Reuter. He taught himself to play the organ while recuperating from a motorcycle accident. This dovetailed with a spiritual awakening that brought him to the feet of his guru, Osho. He recorded his first album of synthesizer music, SOUNDS OF THE HEART, in 1987 to great acclaim, and has continued to release albums that speak to the soul and prepare the mind for contemplation of higher truths. After his guru died in 1991, Karunesh released a series of albums in his honor, specifically for meditation.
