Yes: House of Yes - Live from the House of Blues (DVD video) [2000]
DVD9 PAL ISO + MDS | audio DD 2.0 & 5.1 | Symphonic Prog | ~112 min | 6.86 Gb | hr cover & label incl.

Too often dismissed as dinosaurs of the progressive-rock movement of the 1970s, Yes aimed to revive their former glory with their 1999 album, The Ladder. Veteran producer Bruce Fairbairn specifically urged the band to return to the sound that made it famous-poetic lyrics, thickly layered fusion of guitar, bass, keyboards, and sophisticated melodic structures. Whether Yes achieved its goal is subject to debate, but die-hard Yes-philes will surely agree this is the finest video presentation of this enduring band and its music. The Dolby Digital 5.1-channel audio is exquisitely distinct, showcasing the seasoned musicianship of guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire, drummer Alan White, and next generation Yes members Igor Khoroshev (replacing Rick Wakeman on keyboards) and Billy Sherwood (who later left the band) on guitar.

After 30 years as Yes frontman and vocalist, Jon Anderson leads in fine form. His mellow enthusiasm is genuine, and this 15-song set (recorded at the Las Vegas House of Blues club) catches the band on a very good night. Squire is a playful match to Howe's reliable precision, and the best of the new songs (particularly "Homeworld" [The Ladder]) are almost as good as the classics. And while the Bob Marley tribute song "The Messenger" is best forgotten, few could deny that Yes has indeed retained its vitality after all these years. In addition to interviews with all the band members (except White), impressive extra features on the DVD include a Dolby 5.1 version of the "Homeworld" album track, accompanied by computer-animated excerpts from the "Homeworld" CD-ROM game, and an HTML version of the Yesworld Web site. A conspicuous effort to attract a new generation of cyber-savvy fans? Perhaps, but if this terrific DVD is any indication, Yes needn't worry about passing into obscurity.

Pain of Salvation - Be - Original Stage Production (DVD) [2006]
DVD9 ISO + MDS | audio DD 2.0 & 4.1 | progressive metal with gothic spice | ~78 min | 7.12 Gb | cover incl.

This DVD features the live performance of Pain of Salvation's conceptual masterpiece, Be, complete with an orchestra and animated footage. Before Pain of Salvation entered the studio to record Be, they performed the music live over the course of several nights in front of music students and in rock clubs. A camera crew followed them around to document the performances for this DVD. "It seems that everybody was deeply impressed," says creator Daniel Gildenlow. "I think, however, in order to grasp every detail of the show one would have to watch it three or four times."

Pain of Salvation - The Second Death of Pain of Salvation (Live-2CD) [2009]
Mp3 320 CBR | Progressive Metal | 110 min | 236.5 Mb

In 1984, Daniel Gildenlow formed the band REALITY at the whopping age of 11. The group stayed together under that name for seven years. In 1991, the name REALITY was shelved for the new reality of the name PAIN OF SALVATION. Led by singer and guitarist Daniel GILDENLOW, POS always pushes further the limits of its Progressive heavy-metal with gothic tendencies.

Recorded during their successful Scarsick tour in Paradiso, Amsterdam (Netherlands), this release contains the full concert on 2 CDs. A dynamic show of one of the leading bands in the genre of metal and progressive rock. The recording will mark the end and the beginning of a period in the life of Pain of Salvation.

Genesis - The Video Show (DVD) [2004]
DVD5 VIDEO_TS folder | Audio DD 2.0 & 5.1 | 3.96 Gb | cover incl.

Genesis - The Video Show, a collection of 32 of the veteran British group's videos, includes more than a few items that pre-date MTV by several years, making this the comprehensive record of Genesis' post-Peter Gabriel era. There are all kinds of videos here, both black & white and color, somber ("No Son of Mine") and silly ("I Can't Dance"), topical ("Tell Me Why") and romantic, some with storylines and many that are simulated (i.e., lip-synced) performances, from both onstage and elsewhere. Song-wise, the best tend to be the hits, like "Misunderstanding," "Paperlate" (taken from England's "Top of the Pops" TV show), "That's All," and "Invisible Touch" (one of no less than six tracks taken from the 1986 album of the same name), although the '70s material, particularly from A Trick of the Tail (when the group was a foursome, with guitarist Steve Hackett), is also strong. On the other hand, the lesser-known tunes yield some of the better videos, including "Land of Confusion" (with its bizarre puppet versions of Genesis members Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks, not to mention Ronald and Nancy Reagan) and others ("Illegal Alien," "Jesus He Knows Me") that give Collins, a pretty fair actor, an opportunity for some full-on mugging.

blonker - Straight Ahead [2002]
MP3 - 320 CBR | Easy Listening - Instrumental - Guitar | 117 MB

The artist Dieter Geike, alone, is Blonker. A German composer and musician, he is skilled at keyboards, bass, guitar, and many other instruments. His gentle rhythmic musical stylings are most times a silky smooth mix of a number of genres, including jazz, rock, and even classical and new age. In 1978 Geike saw the release of his debut album, Die Zeit Steht Still. In 1980 he signed with the Philips Records label to complete two more albums, Fantasia and Windmills. Four years later he switched to another big label, Mercury, where he recorded three more marvelous full-length albums. The start of 1990 found Geike working under yet another new label, BSC Music. Albums like 1980's Time to Remember and 1998's Wellness kept his music before fans. Throughout the '90s, Geike received numerous positive reviews as Blonker. Gradually his fame has spread from Russia to Europe to America.
