Manjriker Gunaratne "The Foundation Engineering Handbook"
Published by CRC Press | Publication date : January 2006 | ISBN : 020348441X | PDF | 625 pages | English | 7.2 MB

Great strides have been made in the art of foundation design during the last two decades. In situ testing, site improvement techniques, the use of geogrids in the design of retaining walls, modified ACI codes, and ground deformation modeling using finite elements are but a few of the developments that have significantly advanced foundation engineering in recent years. What has been lacking, however, is a comprehensive reference for foundation engineers that incorporates these state-of-the-art concepts and techniques.

Bernard Leupen, "Design and Analysis"
Uitgeverij | ISBN: 9064502595 | 1997-06 | PDF | 224 pages | 16 Mb

Taking an interdisciplinary approach, and using historical examples of architecture, urban design, and landscape architecture, the book traces the evolution of design principles from ancient Greece to the 20th Century.

Design and analysis are inseparable processes. All architects, designers, urban planners, and landscape architects use similar methods of analysis to understand the structure and compositional principles of things that have already been built. Only methodical analysis gives us an insight into the design process, or into the way in which an object has been put together. This book is an ideal tool to teach and learn analytical methods that can be applied to any design process.

Alkali-Activated Cements and Concretes
Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISBN: 0415700043 | edition 2006 | PDF | 392 pages | 10,6 mb

Na2O, K2O, Li2O; MeO include CaO and MgO; and Me2O3 include Al2O3. These two types of binders can be manufactured by directly mixing alkaline activators (sodium, potassium alkalis and salts) into ground metallurgical slags, fly ashes and natural pozzolans. Some other components may be added to improve the properties of the binders. These binders can display much better mechanical and durability properties than conventional cement and concrete. It uses industrial by-products or recycled materials as major components, consumes very minimal amount of energy, and has no direct release of greenhouse gases. Thus, it is a really "Green Cement".

Donald L. Johnson, Donald Langmead Architectural Excursions: Frank Lloyd Wright, Holland and Europe (Contributions to the Study of Art and Architecture)
Praeger | 2000 | ISBN: 0313305676 | 272 pages | PDF | 18 MB

Soon after 1900 in both North America and Europe the evolution from the tradition of Mediterranean and Gallic architectural styles to modernism began. This phenomenon was due, in part, to American industrial architecture and the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright's building and architectural treatises of 1898-1908, with the additional help of Dutch propaganda on his behalf, significantly influenced European practitioners and theorists. European architecture within and outside of Holland reflects an adaptation of Wright's theories along with the structural determinism of American industrial buildings. With new evidence and fresh analysis culled from Dutch and American archives, personal correspondence, and professional material, this study examines the weight of Wright's works and words and those of the Dutchmen H.P. Berlage, Theo van Doesburg, Jan Wils, J.J.P. Oud, William Dudok and Hendrik Theodor Wijdeveld.
