Alberti, l'architetto ha avuto un grande impatto sulla formazione dello stile Alto rinascimento. Dopo Filippo Brunelleschi sviluppato motivi antichi in architettura. Nel suo progetto è stato costruito Palazzo Rucellai a Firenze (1446-1451), ha ricostruito la facciata della chiesa di Santa Maria Novella (1456-1470), Chiesa di San Francesco a Rimini, San Sebastiano e Sant'Andrea a Mantova, che ha determinato la direzione in architettura XV secolo.
Alberti era impegnato nella pittura, ha cercato la sua mano a scultura. Come il primo teorico dell'arte del Rinascimento italiano noto per aver scritto 'Dieci libri su architettura' (1452), e le piccole trattato latino 'sulla statua' (1464).
Scritto tra il 1442 e il 1452, il De Re Aedificatoria di Leon Battista Alberti è considerato da molti il più alto contributo teorico sull’arte del costruire che la cultura rinascimentale abbia saputo esprimere.
