An audio companion to Thomas Ashley-Farrand's book of the same name, Healing Mantras is a beginner's guide to Sanskrit mantras from Hindu tradition. Over 20 mantras are featured on the disc, which includes liner notes. The format is simple--Ashley-Farrand discusses the significance of each mantra, breaks them down in terms of individual syllables, then chants them fluidly. The focus of the disc is to teach people proper pronunciation and execution of these mantras so that they may be effective in real life. Given the soothing nature of Ashley-Farrand's narration, Healing Mantras is relaxing if played merely as background audio, although it is obviously meant for those seeking an active, participatory experience rather than music listening
