The average essay length is 8,000 words, but ranges from slightly less than 3,000 to more than 20,000 words, depending on the amount of information available. Essays are arranged alphabetically by the most-commonly cited name for the group-although such terms as Sioux and Gypsy may be offensive to some members of the groups themselves, as noted in the essays.
