Greely, a prominent planetary geologist, has assembled an impressive collection of black-and-white images of planetary and satellite surfaces, accompanied by a lucid explanatory text on the various geomorphic processes responsible for shaping these surfaces. Intended mainly for Earth scientists, planetary scientists, and astromomers, the book will also appeal to others seeking a better understanding of the results of space missions to the Moon and the planets.
The book is strewn with quarter to full page photographs from the various space missions to the planets--and indeed, it is the best illustrated introductory text available. The author does provide a good overview of all the geological processes and imaging technology in his initial chapters, which is then followed by his descriptions of the planets.
