Taylor & Francis | 2752 pages | 2003-12-01 | ISBN: 0750306076 | djvu | 3 volumes

The Handbook of Laser Technology and Applications is a practical, authoritative reference source for scientists and engineers who work with lasers. Within a single work, it provides a comprehensive guide to the current status of lasers and laser systems. It is accessible to science or engineering graduates with no more than standard undergraduate knowledge of optics. A self-contained reference, the handbook provides extensive references to contemporary work and forms a basis for studying the professional journal literature on the subject. It covers applications through detailed case studies and therefore, is well suited to readers who wish to use it to solve specific problems of their own.

Summary:

Very Valuable Reference Source on Lasers and it's applications.

Rating:
5

The Institute of Physics Publishing is to be congratulated on publishing this three-volume set titled: Handbook of Laser Technology and Applications, edited by Colin E. Webb and Julian D C Jones. This vast collection of articles on lasers and it's technological applications is the work of over 170 international experts, many of whom are world leaders in their respective areas of lasers and laser technology. Volume I is of 301 pages but it can serve as a great graduate level text outlining the basic principles of lasers, laser beams and nonlinear optics. The articles are very lucidly written and well illustrated with diagrams and references. I would most certainly use it for an introductory graduate level course in laser physics. Volume II which covers pages 305 to 1555 is a veritable encyclopedia on the operating characteristics and mechanisms of almost all kinds of lasers with it's optical and electronic components. Every chapter is accompanied with an exhaustive bibliography at it's end. Volume III which covers pages 1559 to 2725 covers a wide range of applications of lasers to all aspects of engineering and technology. Again massive bibliographical references accompany each article in this volume. This 3-volume set should be a must buy for any institution dealing with lasers at any level especially those interested on the latest references in laser applications research. The index at the back is exhaustive and well documented. Congratulations to the editors on a superb job.
