The Art Of Robert Griffing: His Journey Into The Eastern Frontier

East/West Visions | 2003 | ISBN: 0967161401 | 84 JPEG | 231 Mb

Robert Griffing has captured the North American frontier of the 18th century as effectively and brilliantly as Frederic Remington captured the Western frontier of the 19th. While many people still automatically envision the Western plains Indians as their only concept of Native Americans, Griffing's art is dedicated to putting the Eastern Woodland tribes back into the common imagination with amazing paintings that are as rigorously technically correct as they are aesthetically powerful. Every detail is vigorously researched and historically correct, making his art work a valuable resource for historians of the period as well as art collectors.
While anyone with an appreciation for historical art will surely appreciate this collection of Griffing's work, it will have a special appeal to the student of the Colonial frontier and the French and Indian War. His depictions of Braddock's failed campaign, the taking of Mary Jemison, Major Grant's Piper, Fort Pitt under siege, and the Battle of Bushy Run are just a sampling of the incidents of that period that he brings vividly to life in his art.

NOTE: Here is 84 HQ scans of paintings from this album.

Curtis and others worked in cultural context and were very accurate. These paintings are racist,
contrived, not at all accurate and conveyed only in a narrow,
non-cultural context. While these might be considered art, as far as depicting
eastern tribal culture, they fail completely. Appreciate the donload but after looking at them
I put them in the trash. I am Algonquian.
