by Dr. Zakir Naik: What does Islam say about ‘god-men’?

India is often called the land of ‘god-men’. This is due to the abundance of so-called spiritual masters in India. Many of these ‘babas’ and ‘saints’ have a large following in many countries. Islam abhors deification of any human being. To understand the Islamic stand towards such pretenders to divinity, let us analyze one such ‘god-man’, Osho Rajneesh.

Let us put this candidate, ‘Bhagwan’ Rajneesh, to the test of Surah Ikhlas which is Chapter 112 of the Qur’an:

"Say: He is Allah,
The One and Only.
"Allah, the Eternal, Absolute.
"He begets not, nor is He begotten.
And there is none like unto Him."
[Al-Qur’an 112:1-4], the touchstone of theology:

i)
The first criterion is "Say, He is Allah, one and only". Is Rajneesh one and only? No! Rajneesh was one among the multitude of ‘spiritual teachers’ produced by India. Some disciples of Rajneesh might still hold that Rajneesh is one and only.

ii)
The second criterion is, ‘Allah is absolute and eternal’. We know from Rajneesh’s biography that he was suffering from diabetes, asthma, and chronic backache. He alleged that the U.S. Government gave him slow poison in prison. Imagine Almighty God being poisoned! Rajneesh was thus, neither absolute nor eternal.

iii)
The third criterion is ‘He begets not, nor is He begotten’. We know that Rajneesh was born in Jabalpur in India and had a mother as well as a father who later became his disciples.


In May 1981 he went to U.S.A. and established a town called ‘Rajneeshpuram’. He later fell foul of the West and was finally arrested and asked to leave the country. He came back to India and started a commune in Pune which is now known as the ‘Osho’ commune. He died in 1990. The followers of Osho Rajneesh believe that he is Almighty God. At the ‘Osho commune’ in Pune one can find the following epitaph on his tombstone:

"Osho – never born, never died; only visited the planet Earth between 11th December 1931 to 19th January 1990."

They forget to mention that he was not granted visa for 21 countries of the world. Can a person ever imagine ‘God’ visiting the earth, and requiring a visa to enter a country! The Archbishop of Greece said that if Rajneesh had not been deported, they would have burnt his house and those of his disciples.

The fourth test, which is the most stringent is, "There is none like unto Him". The moment you can imagine or compare ‘God’ to anything, then he (the candidate to divinity) is not God. It is not possible to conjure up a mental picture of the One True God. We know that Rajneesh was a human being, having two eyes, two ears, a nose, a mouth and a white flowing beard. Photographs and posters of Rajneesh are available in plenty. The moment you can imagine or draw a mental picture of an entity, then that entity is not God.

I hope and pray that Allah guides all of us towards the Truth (Aameen).

I don't know what you are trying to prove meltdown. I am a Muslim too and I am sure you have never moved further than Dr. Zakir Nyak. He is an intlligent person but let me tell you clearly he is not an enlightened person.
The reason you are making such comments is that you have never really heard Osho. All you have heard is what critics say about him. I recommend you listen to lecture number 4 of Be Still and Know.
Osho never claimed he is a God. Infact he disliked people calling him Bhagwan and renounced this title in his own life. His message tells us the true essence of religion. Dr. Zakir Naya's whole effort is to prove religion by science. He does not even posses good knowledge of Osho. All the claims he atributes to Osho are his own claims Osho never made such claims.
Those who criticise Osho are either too stupid to understand his philosophy and work or are too jealous by the number of his deciples.
I recommend you should personaly study and here some person before reaching some conclusion about him. There are too many Maulwis and Priests heres to distract you.

OSHO Says about Death:

Death is already happening. Whether you face it or not, whether you look at it or not, it is already there.

It is just like breathing. When a child is born, he inhales. he breathes in for the first time. That is the beginning of life. And when one day he becomes old, dies, he will exhale.

Death always happens with exhalation and birth with inhalation. But exhalation and inhalation are happening continuously. With each inhalation you are born; with each exhalation you die.

So the first thing to understand is that death is not somewhere in the future, waiting for you, as it has been always pictured. It is part of life; it is an ongoing process -- not in the future, here, now.

Life and death are two aspects of existence. simultaneously happening together.
Ordinarily, you have been taught to think of death as being against life. Death is not against life -- life is not possible without death. Death is the very ground on which life exists. Death and life are like two wings: the bird cannot fly with one wing, and the being cannot be without death. So the first thing is a clear understanding of what we mean by death.

Death is an absolutely necessary process for life to be. It is not the enemy, it is the friend. And it is not there somewhere in the future, it is here, now. It is not going to happen, it has been always happening. Since you have been here it has been with you. With each exhalation it happens -- a little death, a small death -- but because of fear we have put it in the future.

The mind always tries to avoid things which it cannot comprehend, and death is one of the most incomprehensible mysteries. There are only three mysteries: life, death and love. All these three are beyond mind.

So mind takes life for granted; then there is no need to inquire. That is a way of avoiding. You never think, you never meditate on life; you have simply accepted it, taken it for granted. It is a tremendous mystery. You are alive, but don't think that you have known life.
For death, mind plays another trick: it postpones it. To accept it here and now would be a constant worry, so the mind puts it somewhere in the future -- then there is no hurry. When it comes, we will see.

Once a Christian missionary came to me and he asked, 'Do you believe in Jesus Christ's resurrection?'
I told him that there was no need to go so far. Each moment everybody is resurrected. But he could not understand. It is difficult for people who are too much into their ideology.
He said, 'But do you believe that he was crucified? Is this not just a myth, or is it a reality? What do you think?'
I said to him again that everybody is crucified every moment. That is the whole meaning of Jesus' crucifixion and his resurrection. Whether it is historical or not does not matter a bit. It is simply irrelevant to think whether it happened or not -- it is HAPPENING.

Each moment the past is crucified, the old leaves disappear. And each moment a new being arises in you, resurrects. It is a constant miracle.
The second thing to understand about death is that death is the only certainty. Everything else is uncertain: it may happen, it may not happen. Death is certain because in birth half of it has already happened, so the other end must be somewhere, the other pole must be somewhere in the dark. You have not come across it because you are afraid; you don't move in the dark. But it is certain! With birth, death has become a certainty.
Once this certainty penetrates your understanding, you are relaxed. Whenever something is absolutely certain then there is no worry. Worry arises out of uncertainty.

A person who is really living is not in any way afraid of death. If you are living rightly you are finished with death, you are already too grateful, fulfilled. But if you have not lived, then the constant worry continues, 'I have not lived yet and death is coming. And death will stop all; with death there will be no future.' So one becomes apprehensive, afraid, and tries to avoid death.

I am not an indian. India is a land of many Gurus. And according to Osho there are actually two types of minds, a Greek mind and an Indian mind. The Greak mind is Logical. The indian mind is irrational. Each of the real Gurus in India like Maha Reachi and else have their own method of teaching and no one is superior to other - not evn osho is superior to others.
And one thing more. This is not a boring preaching as you might think. These are very funny and enjoying talks which will sometime make you burst out in laughter.

God has a special place for charlatans, aka. fake gurus. This guy was proven a phoney, not by westerners but by Indians - no criticism only truth. However, anyone knowledgable about "western society" knows that there is a thing called "religious freedom". I really wanted the criticisim to appear and that is the reason I added the comment, not to criticise, because it is the very nature of human to do what he has been asked not to do. Infact, you see, if I had not added that comment nobody had really cared to comment. Nobody has got the time to do so. The only way for me was to hurt a little ego. And man is very egoistic, he is more of it than he is a Buddhist, a Hindu, a Cristian or a Muslim.

may be he was not perfect but from his books you may be initiated to start your
own spiritual quest...as for US visa prohibition I can imagine many a moslem preachers would be in his shoes NOW. I like buddhism better but Osho is OK for beginners

We are talking about sprituality here. There is no biggening and no end. This is not a school. For some people it has just been a moment to attain the Ultimate and for others ven the life long quest yeild nothing. For every disciple his master should be everything. Once he or she has found one he or she should stick to it or else one will wounder for eternity and have nothing.
However, Osho is one of the very few Gurus who are more understandable to the westerm mind. Others are too difficult. I think this is what you mean.
Osho does not preeches any religion of his own. Most of his talk is on Buddha and Christ. Infact at some places he has claimed the reincarnation of Buddha in himself.

Osho is a man of knowledge

Everyone should read Osho at least once, in order to expand their minds.

Saint Augustus had finished sunday morning prayers, in which he said to everybody that Jesus said if a man slaps you on one side of your face bring him the other side.When he was comming out of the church a man just to test his statement slapt so hard on his face that his head spined for moment. He became very angry inside his heart but he was a man of his word so he brought the other side of his face infront and the cunning man hit even harder on the other side!!! Just after the man was done with it Saint Augustus jumped over him and start beating the man so hard that he started crying. People said Father what are you doing? You are a saint. He said I have offered him both sides of my face and I don't have a THIRD SIDE! and Jesus stops at that...

I am a Doctor and a Scientist am about to be MD. I am born and educated in a Muslim family. Do you think Zakir Nayak posses more scientific knowledge than I do. For, God sake, the man is a walking Robot! He impresses the audiance by showning them that how nicely he remembers the line number, page number and verse number from the Holy Quran or Holy Bible. His whole effort is to prove that Quran is based on Science and Bible is not! What nonsense! You listen to that crap, I cannot even tolerate it!

I have listened (from a friend), I am not convinced merely entertained. I have faith in God but not in religion, especially any religion that requests money to hear the message or tells me that anyone else's beliefs is not as good as mine (not a reference to this post). Don't pity me, dear salesman (of Osho), I pray to almighty that he gives you the sense to know truth, for this you do not need to sell audio, you need to read the Quraan and you will find the answers. Even Osho in his grave will now be praying for peace and salvage as he has fooled people like you. I know now for sure that you are not a Muslim as you have claimed. For your information, I do not put Quraan in my ears and does not allow any thing else to pass by it. The teaching that they has provided is enough for all to be success in this world and here after. You should know this if you are a real Muslim, Christian or Jews. If not then, why are adamant in booking yourself a free ticket to hell. Don't you know that believing in a person who calls himself a God or a re-incarnated god is a shrik in Islam and the ONLY sin that Allah will not forgive? That’s why we Muslim call every one NOT to make GOD out of the Allah creation (like this earth, stone, water, fire, sun, trees, human, animals, etc) and listen and pray to him directly with out any third party like the god man. If you know Allah then will get the inner peace. Finally you have proved yourself that you are a doctor with a degree and born in a Muslim family. That’s why I said in my earlier comments that you are not Muslim by choice but by chance as you said by chance you were born in a Muslim family. You even do not know what the meaning of praying five times is and what we say in those five time prayer. If you know the meaning of the Surah Fatiyah, that would suffice you to understand the meaning of Islam.

No I am not a great fan of Dr. Brother Zakir naik, I am the fan of the great prophets that came to earth, which I listed above, and follow them and don't follow any tom, dick of Harry who copy the teaching form the holy book and modify it so that you too are impressed with it (What do you thing Osho was doing in his three years of silence?). For E.g. your breathing and death funda. You know what Allah says in his Quraan about the death. Go back to the Quraan and know yourself, may be this time Allah will forgive you. Start your search for truth from now as you never know, when Allah will call you, then after that time you cannot give the excuse that no one told me the truth about you (Allah), at least I have tried telling you the truth.

It’s a shame that you are expecting some one to thank you for posting lies and false god man information and fooling other. Any sane person will not thank crooked people effort or advice. Instead he will expose them. Finally I would like to end my response as I said earlier this site is not meant for debating on this serious matter. You may think you can understan Quran but for me I consider myself too little for that. Yes too little to understand it. Its a book that contains the Truth of whole
existance and its completely impossible to understand it without a master. But
where shall I go? whenever a enlightened person is born in Muslims they have killed
him. This has always been the case. First they killed Ali A.S then Hussain A.S and this
kept on going. You people have killed Rumi you have decapetated Sarmad to name
a few. Down the ages you have been killing the enlightned people born amoung you
by calling them god-man and still you posses the same menality. So was the case
with cristians, they too have burned their enlightened people on the name of
witchcraft. All the religions today are lead by Priests and polititions. The whole idea
of religion is their livelihood and it is very dangerous for them if you attain
enlightenment.

Once Aristotle was moving along the beach when he saw a mad
man, wearing dirty cloths, has dug a small hole into the ground and has tea spoon in
his hand. He runs to the sea and takes some water in it, brings it back to the hole
and put the water into it. Aristotle was amazed. He went and asked the man "What
are you doing?" the man said "I will empty the sea into this hole". "Are you mad,
with this small spoon!?" Aristotle exclaimed. The man said "No,I was thinking you
are mad.I have heard that you want to understand the Eternal?". "Yes" replied
aristotle "with this Small HEAD!!" exclaimed the mad man.

This is the situation with you. You want to understand
the book of the Ultimate and you strongly believe you can. Even its language is so
difficult that the native Arabs could not understand it. The depth of each verse is so
vast that its meaning or translation could not be forgranted for it. And you and your
scholars with thier limited experience and unenlightened understanding think they get
the context.

In this situation only one man has helped me to understand the real
essense behind those verses and you can understand them too. But I can see that
society has created so many taboos for you to just think in that direction. First of all
the very word of Guru has been attached with a taboo that the man is a deciever.
Secondly, because Zakir Nayaik has said to you that Osho claims to be a god you
believe he does although he never did. And just look at the picture I have placed on
the main page. A man joining his hands looking towards the sky - is this a picture of
a god-man - a 'Firaun'. Thats why I say, you have eyes but you are blind. Your
Maulwees and Maoulanas have conditioned you because you are their livelihood.
They keep on leading you although they themselves have not reached the
destination. They are woundering and you are following them believing that they
know because your parents told you that and their parents before them.
And last but not the least he is not a Muslim and to a Muslim a non-Muslim could
never be greater than a Muslim in understanding. All these taboos surround you and
make you impossible.

You have adopted a holier than though attitude which is a
common disease in the Muslims and they keep on proclaiming other muslims
Mushrik and non-muslim. And so are you doing to me. And I can bet if I am in front
of you, you will decapitate me too. How little is you thinking and how narrow is your
vision and you tell me not to pitty you....

Samrad, what i told is to read Quraan and understand it. What has made you think that Quraan is so depth in meaning that you will need another divine person to help you to make your understand. Do you think Allah is so stupid that he has given us book which to make it understand he will send devine person. I am confrimed tnow that you did not even bother to atleast read its translation forget about reading it in Arabic and then understanding. I guess Allah has made you to be like this and so will you be like this. Do your Osho is different from other Maulwees and Maoulanas? No Maulwees has collected so many funds by selling vein talks as osho did. Now by frely distributing his nonsense you are actulally bringing loss to the Osho company. Alhamdu-lillah, every flasehood is bound to perish, as Allah has created falsehood to perish. I am not sure how you came to know that Killing of Ali(RA) or Hussain (RA) was to kill a person who wants to say turth, are they the only one to tell you what is truth in this earth. NO. Thats why i call you back to Islam and seek guidence under the shade of Islam and follow only Rasool Mohammed (S.A.W). Our Rasool has very clearly given the message to all Human Kind thru Allah so that people like you can understand. So do not give the excuse of telling that you cannot understnad Quraan becuase it has so many meaning. Nawzubillah. Quraan does not have so many menaing, it is the onyl holy book in the face of the earth will is more clear and any sane person, if sincerely reads it will understand it. But, it will become a different story if you have already sealed your heart for Quraaan and assumed that i cannot understand it and that is why i need Osho baba to help me out. If an literate person like you who has done a doctor finds it so difficult then i wonder what a common illiterate man will do and how many baba he will have to maintian. We have not created any Maulwees or moulanas and we do not pay them to tell us the meaning of Quraan. If you are really a literate person, then go to a proper Sheiks or your Sufi sheiks with the Quraan and sit with him and help yourself to know about Allah. Quraan is the only book that you will need in your life to attain peace and harmaony. May Allah help you to know the truth.

With greater knowledge comes greater ignorance because then you are able to see what you don't know and what lies beyond. This explains our situation. I have nothing more to say.

If the religion has turned you two bickering nuts into such bores then it just confirms my FACT-BASED opinion that religion is baaaaaaad. More bad than good is brought to the world through the powers of religion and so a world without such superstitions would be a world of less divisions and hatred.

Thanks Fa you seem to be a really intelligent person. But you have also misunderstood a little bit. Its true that the religion has been really harmful to Mankind but its not because it is bad. It is because religion was never tried in its real sense in its first place. I remember Swami Vevakhananda once drew an analogy "the drop of rain is pure at its origion but after passing through many mediums of air and dust it becomes impure and currupted". So has been with the religion when it has passed through priests and polititions who have currupted it. These people have boiled down religions to scriptures which are only words and you know that these people are very good at manipulating words.
The discussion with meltdown is very good and I think this is the right place to do it because here it presents a contrast between the thinking of a modren religious mind and the teachings of a Mystic mind. We can see that the religious mind of today has been given a narrow scope of thinking based too much upon words. He can talk only remaining in that very narrow boundries repeating or chanting the same words which he cannot even understand the meaning himself. Jesus(P.B.U.H), Buddah, Moases(P.B.U.H), Abrahim(P.B.U.H). Muhammad (P.B.U.H). these peoples are to be lived not followed. One might live in a superstition that he is following them but one can never. They have to be given birth with in one's ownself. This is what all Mystics are trying to reveal it to you. This is when true religious experiense occur and then you become aware and then no one can manipulate your religion.....

Thanks for admiring my analogy but its really true. The religious mind has become so mechanical that it is almost like a Biocomputer. You put some situation(Problem or Data)in and you get the feedback(output) as he is conditioned. If something happens that this computer has got no information about, it Stops(ERROR!) and runs (Resumes or Backups) to its previous state never trying to go in that direction ever again by creating fear of going astry (Memory)
