Pink Floyd "Animals" Japanese 1st Pressing Linear Tracking Turntable 96/24
LP rip at 24-bit/96kHz in Linear Tracking turntable| FLAC x 2 | NO CUE
8 x 100 MB + 36 MB | RS | Progressive Rock | 1977

This LP needs no introduction. If you're looking into this, you already know the deal.
Why another rip? I do not intend to demean the other member's rip of the same LP at the same resolution.
Here is the difference : this LP was recorded using a LINEAR TRACKING TURNTABLE as opposed to a pivot arm one.
This reduces inner groove distortion considerably.
I also use a very decent good elliptical stylus, the Ortofon OM20.
I hope you enjoy the difference.

Track listing

Side A
1. "Pigs on the Wing 1" Waters 1:24
2. "Dogs" Gilmour, Waters 17:06
Side B
1. "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" Waters 11:28
2. "Sheep" Waters 10:21
3. "Pigs on the Wing 2" Waters 1:27

As opposed to the DVD-A Quad mixes, LP rips are directly from the slab o' vinyl, so , no cue. .

Tech talk:
TT: Technics SL-QL2 Linear Tracking

k'n k sez:
Thanks guys, hope you enjoy the comparison-I always like to compare rips, and , of course; every rig has its own particular sound.
I find the OM20 to be a bit on the bright side-which is my preference.
I usually clean my LPs with L'Art du Son, but recent economic setbacks have made me use the Lou Dorren Formula(QSI), which is used to bring the dust to the surface-therefore needing a preliminary playback so that the stylus can gather the dust. It works quite well too.

BTW; the Technics Turntable is the SL-QL1...not QL2....don't know where the 2 came from...
CHeers!

Thank you, this is an important album (ok, at least to me) and I'll always happily consider all versions. I just listened to side one earlier this afternoon on my Denon DL-160 and every groove was a delight, yet another rip of Animals out there also uses a tangent tracking arm and is also heavenly and has been my reference rip (except one small (very very small) edit flaw). I always prefer LP's direct on my system unless there's a pressing of better quality that I don't have, which is where these fabulous rips come in. And Dr. Robert, you know we want to hear yours as well ;-) Thanks again k'n k!

Are there still links to the "other rip" you guys are talking about for comparison?
Posted By: Dr. Robert Date: 18 Jun 2010 23:54:17
@ Markbot

The previous rip was done by aksman. Also pbthal did a redbook rip of the UK LP with his Terminator LTA

@unidyn - Still waiting for my copy to arrive and then I will be busy with Frank and then the Fab Four for a while.

Your's is definitely the winner over my $1200.00 UE 11 Pro Custom IEM's. Just overall better clarity to everything.

Dr. Robert, I know you've been working hard on the Frank collection, outstanding btw, wonderful job on those! Meanwhile, I've yet to burn this one and anxious to enjoy, which should be ready tomorrow.

Thanks a tone - great album and rip. Is there a quad mix out there? If so does anyone have a link?

Gee Whiz, ripcord! Those are some pretty expensive headphones. Please post the retail price of all of your A/V equipment so we can all marvel at your wealth and taste.

Thanks or the rip...I'll add it to my collection on my $225 hard drive.

@ spencexxx: give the guy a break. He was just saying that with his mega expensive cans he can hear improvements from the previous rip. That's a compliment, not a brag - you sound like a jealous kid! ;)

@ empanadilla: Many thanks. It's that distortion you were speaking of that always puts me off most vinyl rips - they nearly always sound worse than audiophile CDs. Too many times they sound like they need to be played through a de-esser! I will gladly grab your very special vinyl rip! :)

Many thanks for this, empanadilla. As someone who has only recently got off his lazy arse to upload a post i now know the effort it takes to prepare something like this. Cheers!

empanadilla, I've just gotta say a big thank you for this rip. If this had been
vinyl I'd have worn it out by now! To my ears this is the best 24/96 I've heard.
It conveys so much energy, depth and clarity that it matches the best of avax's
top guns releases. For a political concept album the feeling/sound of edginess of
a depressed society really comes through due to the dynamics of the rip.
Just love it. Thanks.

Spliiting tracks from CUE sheet given by HaraldBluetooth with foobar cause quality loss?
What about with CUETools?

Thanks for excellent release ;).

I haven't had a DSL connection since August last year , so I can not upload (or basically download) anything big. This situation will remain until the bastards at the phone company decide to install a landline in my house., please accept my apologies, Empanadilla.
